Charging Document Dooms Alec Baldwin: ‘Displayed Very Inconsistent Accounts, Extremely Reckless Acts’

Embattled Hollywood star Alec Baldwin has officially been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust,” officials announced today.

In announcing the charges, prosecutors also released the charging document which spells doom for Baldwin.

The statement of probable cause supporting criminal charges against Baldwin is damning.

The document claims that Baldwin had not been properly trained with firearms ahead of the movie and that he pulled the trigger of the gun.

The allegation that Baldwin pulled the trigger directly refutes public claims from the actor, who told the media that he did not.

The movie’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has also been charged in the case.

District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said: “Today my office formally filed involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed in the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the ‘Rust’ film set in Santa Fe County in October 2021.

“Negligent use of a deadly weapon charges were also filed against ‘Rust’ assistant director David Halls, who has pleaded no contest and has entered into a plea agreement that is pending approval.”

The affidavit said: “Baldwin drew the revolver from the holster, pointed it at Halyna Hutchins, and fired the weapon.

“Baldwin later asserted that he never fired the revolver and that it had just ‘..gone off.’

“Baldwin made this assertion public as well, in multiple media interviews conducted after the shooting.

“Many media interviews and law enforcement interviews were conducted by Baldwin, and he displayed very inconsistent accounts of what happened during the incident when firing the gun that killed Hutchins.

“The evidence and statements documented in this affidavit confirm many instances of extremely reckless acts or reckless failures to act by Baldwin in a 10-day period.

“Baldwin’s deviation from known standards, practice and protocol directly caused the fatal death of Hutchins.”

“Baldwin approached responding deputies on the day of the shooting, wanting to talk to them because he was the one who ‘fired’ the gun.

“As the producer of a firearm intense film, evidence shows that Baldwin allowed, through acts or omissions, the hiring of inexperienced and unqualified [Gutierrez-Reed] for this production, failed to mitigate or establish more precautions to protect against [Gutierrez-Reed’s] inexperience, or failed to demand the minimum safety standards, protocols, and requirements on set,”

Baldwin’s lawyers fired back over the charges.

“This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice,” Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas, said when the charges were announced.

“We will fight these charges and we will win.”

Gutierrez Reed’s attorneys said:

“Hannah pleaded to provide more firearms training.

“She was denied and brushed aside.

“Hannah asked to be able to perform her armorer duties more for safety reasons.

“She was told by production to focus on props.

“Hannah asked Halls if they could us a plastic gun for the rehearsal scene and he said no, wanting a ‘real gun.’

“Hannah asked to be called back into the church if Baldwin was going to use the gun at all and Halls failed to do that.”
