Disney’s ultra-woke, “boundary-pushing” animated kids’ movie “Strange World” has bombed at the box office and is expected to record historic losses for the famed studio.
“Strange World,” which is loaded with “woke” messaging and green agenda propaganda, brought in just $18.6 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday.
The movie features a gay teen romance involving the main character, an environmental message, and no princesses.
Unless Disney gets a miracle, it is estimated “Strange World” will lose at least $100 million because it cost $180 million to produce and millions more to market.
Hollywood insiders claim the film needs to gross around $360 million to break even.
“This is a weak opening by Disney animation standards,” says David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.
“At a cost of $180 million, plus marketing expenses, the film will finish in the red, even with good ancillary income.
“Normally this time of year, a Disney family film is the big draw,” says Paul Dergarabedian, a Comscore analyst.
“It shows we’re still recovering and adapting to the constraints of the pandemic.”

Ryan Bomberger, of the pro-life Radiance Foundation, said: “What a #StrangeWorld where Disney offers families a crap film at the box office.
“They combine a terrible woke storyline w/ teenage boys who sexually pant for each other. No thanks @Disney.”
Film critic Christian Toto said:
“I think you can point to several factors for ‘Strange World’s’ disastrous opening.
“Let’s start with the title, which is utterly bland.
“It’s an original story, something that often doesn’t click with audiences weaned on sequels, prequels, and reboots.
“The film’s gay storyline got plenty of online attention, and some parents are exhausted by the messaging in modern Disney fare.
“It’s always hard to pinpoint how much of a factor this proves to be, but it clearly didn’t help at the box office.”
According to Variety:
Don Hall directed “Strange World,” which features a voice cast of Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young-White, and Gabrielle Union as a family of legendary explorers who embark on a treacherous journey to save a mysterious land from losing its vital energy source.
Audiences were, perhaps surprisingly, harsher on the film compared to critics. “Strange World” landed a tepid “B” CinemaScore from exit polls, as well as a 73% average from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
Variety’s chief critic Peter Debruge praised the movie’s visuals, writing that “it’s the characters as much as the environment that make this vibrant, ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’-style adventure movie colorful and diverse in all the best ways.”
But he wasn’t sold on the adventure in question, adding that “great as the people and places they explore may be, however, the relatively unimaginative story consigns this gorgeous toon to second-tier status … instead of cracking the pantheon of Disney classics.”
