Hollywood veteran Tim Allen has broken his silence on Disney’s box office flop “Lightyear” after he was replaced in the role for the “Toy Story” spin-off with actor Chris Evans.
Aside from replacing Allen for the role of Buzz Lightyear, which he made famous, the movie was also slammed for including “woke” messaging.
While speaking about “Lightyear” during an appearance on Extra, Allen took a few swipes at the film.
“I’ve stayed out of this,” Allen said about responding to the movie.
“We talked about this many years ago, but the brass that did the first four movies is not this, it’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.
“There’s really no ‘Toy Story,’ Buzz without Woody.
“It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.
“So I’m not sure what the idea — I’m a plot guy — it would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it’s not a big adventure story.
“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.
“It has no relationship to Buzz.
“It’s just no connection. I wish there was a better connection.”
Allen also spoke about his new show “More Power.”
“Originally started with the executive producer, Kate Fox,” he said.
“She and I put together a show a long, long time ago.
“That was the precursor to ‘Last Man Standing.’
“We were coming up with an idea, she and I, of how to support and acknowledge the people that do the things that do, the things that fix the things that make the things, it’s all the way down.
“The people that don’t have a political advantage or disadvantage, they just get the job done.”
His co-star Richard Karn said:
“We do fall into old patterns, but what’s wonderful is that we’ve had some years, you know, where we weren’t in that pattern and new things have happened and new ways of communicating.
“And boy, do we love to communicate.
“We love to argue with each other.”
“I don’t really have a position,” Allen added.
“I just like to know what everybody else’s position is.
“I’m not trying to prove the other guy wrong, I’m trying to understand and clarify.
“So my position is clear,” he said.
