President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota is being hailed as a major success after federal authorities located thousands of missing migrant children in the Minneapolis area.
Border czar Tom Homan announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found 3,364 unaccompanied alien children during a multi-month operation launched on December 1, 2025.
The children, Homan said, were individuals the prior administration had lost track of and failed to search for.
“The Twin Cities, and Minnesota in general, are and will continue to be much safer for the communities here because of what we have accomplished under President Trump’s leadership,” Homan said while confirming the operation’s conclusion.
Thousands of Arrests, Major Enforcement Gains
The enforcement surge also resulted in more than 4,000 arrests, underscoring the scale of the federal operation.
While a limited number of personnel will remain in Minneapolis temporarily, Homan said he proposed ending the surge and that President Trump agreed, with a significant drawdown already underway.
The Minnesota effort formed part of President Trump’s broader immigration agenda, which has prioritized locating missing migrant children, targeting illegal immigrants with criminal records, and strengthening border security through executive action since returning to office.
Democrat Officials Condemn Federal Operation
Minnesota Democrats sharply criticized the enforcement campaign.
Democrat Gov. Tim Walz called the operation an “unnecessary, unwarranted and in many cases unconstitutional assault on our state.”
“It’s going to be a long road,” Walz said.
“Minnesotans are decent, caring loving neighbors and they’re also some of the toughest people you’ll find.
“And we’re in this as long as it takes.”
Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey claimed deportation efforts harmed the local economy.
“This operation has been catastrophic for our neighbors and businesses, and now it’s time for a great comeback,” Frey said.
“We will show the same commitment to our immigrant residents and endurance in this reopening.”
Frey didn’t provide any evidence for the claims, however.
The drawdown follows national controversy earlier this year after two anti-ICE agitators were shot and killed during confrontations with federal agents.
Skewed corporate media reporting on the incidents has intensified political tensions surrounding the crackdown.
Broader Crackdown on Illegal Immigration and Fraud
Throughout the 2024 campaign, President Trump pledged mass deportations of illegal aliens, particularly those with violent criminal histories, and aggressive action to locate missing migrant children.
Since taking office, his administration has issued multiple executive orders tightening deportation policy, ending certain temporary protections, and reinforcing border enforcement.
Federal officials have also paired the Minnesota immigration operation with investigations into alleged entitlement and daycare fraud, following viral footage showing empty Minneapolis facilities that had received substantial taxpayer funding.
Taken together, the results in Minnesota represent one of the most visible early enforcement victories of President Trump’s second term.
The efforts have been highlighting the administration’s focus on public safety, immigration control, and accountability for prior policy failures.
