Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels has launched into a bizarre, unprovoked anti-Trump rant, lamenting the loss of former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race.
In his remarks, Daniels compared Harris to Abraham Lincoln, a comparison that seems more about celebrity admiration than historical accuracy.
Daniels went on a tangent during a head-scratching moment in an interview on MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace’s podcast.
“I still think about Kamala, and how I think she would have been a good choice,” Daniels said, speaking fondly of Harris and her potential role in the 2024 race.
“I don’t care what they say, because she would have done what Lincoln did.”
Daniels didn’t stop there, however.
He went on to suggest that Liz Cheney, a name that is often associated with anti-Trump Republicanism, would have been a perfect fit for Secretary of State under a potential Harris administration.
When Wallace chimed in, comparing Harris to Abraham Lincoln, Daniels eagerly agreed.
He explained his comparison by referring to Lincoln’s famous “Team of Rivals” approach, where the 16th president surrounded himself with people who disagreed with him, arguing that Harris would have done the same.
“Team of Rivals,” Daniels continued.
“That’s what Lincoln did, surrounded himself with the people who would disagree with him, not the people who would, you know, take a knee and go, ‘Yeah, more tariffs, sir, more.’”
While the comparison to Lincoln may have sounded flattering to Daniels, it is a difficult claim to reconcile with the reality of Harris’s record, especially when considering her far-left positions and the progressive policies that have failed to gain broad support among moderate voters.
Daniels also seized the opportunity to criticize the Republican Party, particularly under President Donald Trump’s influence.
He bemoaned the supposed decline of civility and respect for the rule of law in American politics.
The actor asserts that Trump and his supporters are responsible for the current state of the GOP.
“It’s the madness of King George, and just the deterioration of the Republican Party,” Daniels said, as though he were watching the entire nation unravel at the hands of one man.
He added that the Republicans’ decision to “stack the courts” under former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was an indication of a coming political storm, which Daniels claims has led to America’s supposed decline.
“I mean, look, I’m just an actor. What do I know?” he continued.
“But when Mitch started stacking the courts 25 years ago, I said it on your show once, they can see it coming,” Daniels said, referring to what he perceives as a concerted effort by Republicans to shift the nation away from the “new America” he envisions, one that, in his words, “treats everyone with equality and respect and dignity,” reminiscent of Jesus’s teachings.

In a strikingly partisan moment, Daniels argued that Trump’s influence has caused America to lose its civility.
The actor called the president’s impact on the nation “decay,” which has infected the culture.
“We’ve lost decency. We’ve lost civility,” Daniels declared.
“We’ve lost respect for the rule of law. We lost it.
“We have normalized verbal abuse from the Internet.
“We’ve normalized bullying,” he alleged.
While Daniels may claim that society’s ills are tied to the president’s leadership, it’s clear that many of these issues predate the Trump administration.
The rise of social media bullying, cancel culture, and vocal left-wing protests have all played a role in the current cultural divide.
Yet, Daniels seems to want to conveniently place the blame squarely on Trump and his supporters.
Daniels’ comments underscore the liberal Hollywood elite’s continued disdain for conservatives and their preferred leadership.
Despite his critiques, Daniels’s unsubstantiated comparisons of Harris to Lincoln and his ideological defense of the left-wing agenda leave much to be desired when discussing the future of America.
It’s clear that Daniels, like many in Hollywood, continues to root for a political system that does not resonate with most conservative voters.
His nostalgia for a progressive, “woke” America ignores the concerns of everyday Americans who are disillusioned by far-left policies, inflation, and the cultural shift that increasingly sees free speech as a threat.
The battle over America’s future is not just political but cultural, and Daniels’s endorsement of an increasingly radical Democratic Party will only deepen the divide.
