AG Bondi Drops Hammer on Lori Lightfoot After Ex-Chicago Mayor Threatens to ‘Unmask’ Federal Agents

Attorney General Pam Bondi has put Lori Lightfoot on notice after the Democrat former Chicago Mayor threatened to “unmask” federal agents.

Bondi dropped the hammer after Lightfoot vowed to create a system to “unmask” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.

Appearing on Fox News show “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Bondi said Lightfoot will be receiving a formal letter from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ is ordering Lightfoot to preserve all records related to her proposed “ICE Accountability Project.”

The project reportedly seeks to track and publicly identify federal officers and place them in danger.

“This is the first time I’ve seen the Lori Lightfoot video was just now on your show,” Bondi told host Jesse Watters.

“She will be getting a letter from us tomorrow to preserve anything she has done as well, to make sure that she’s not violating the law.

“It appears she is,” the attorney general noted.

“You cannot disclose the identity of a federal agent — where they live, anything that could harm them.”

Lightfoot’s Plan to “Unmask” ICE Agents

In an interview with FOX32 Chicago’s “Chicago Report,” Lightfoot announced plans to launch a nonprofit called The ICE Accountability Project.

She said the project would serve as a “centralized archive” tracking alleged misconduct by ICE and CBP agents.

“We start the process of unmasking the agents,” Lightfoot said, claiming her effort is protected by the Constitution because “they are on public property.”

According to Lightfoot, the portal would provide real-time public updates on alleged “criminal actions” by immigration enforcement officers.

However, critics warn that the move would endanger federal agents and their families.

Bondi: “You Are Impeding an Investigation”

AG Bondi said Lightfoot isn’t the only official being scrutinized for comments threatening federal enforcement.

She confirmed that similar preservation letters have already been sent to other top Democrats, including Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.

“Pritzker, same ball game,” Bondi said.

“Nancy Pelosi got a letter today from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, so did Brooke Jenkins — that DA in San Francisco.

“We told them: ‘Preserve your emails, preserve everything you have on this topic.’

“Because if you are telling people to arrest our ICE officers, our federal agents, you cannot do that.

“You are impeding an investigation, and we will charge them.”

The letters cite multiple federal statutes that make it a crime to assault, obstruct, or conspire against federal officers, as well as the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which bars state or local officials from interfering with lawful federal duties.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche previously warned California leaders to preserve all records related to efforts to “impede or obstruct” federal enforcement, adding that DOJ will “prosecute any official who violates federal law.”

Bondi: “If They Think I Won’t, They Haven’t Met Me”

Bondi made clear that her office intends to enforce those laws without hesitation.

“If they think I won’t, they have not met me,” she said.

Bondi’s remarks follow growing tension between federal immigration authorities and left-wing state officials who have threatened to block or arrest ICE agents enforcing federal law under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Legal experts have warned that Lightfoot’s proposed system to “expose” federal officers could violate privacy, security, and obstruction laws, putting her and her collaborators at serious legal risk.
