American Singer Rebekah Del Rio Dies Suddenly at 57

American vocalist Rebekah Del Rio, best known for her haunting performance of “Llorando” in David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive,” has died suddenly at the age of 57.

Del Rio was found dead at her Los Angeles home on June 23, according to family members.

The cause of death has not been released.

All details surrounding the circumstances of her sudden passing are being withheld from the public.

Her passing comes 16 years after the death of her 23-year-old son, Phillip C. DeMars.

DeMars died from cancer in 2009.

Del Rio, who was of Mexican, Italian, and Sephardic heritage, rose to international attention for her emotionally powerful rendition of Roy Orbison’s “Crying” in Spanish.

The song featured in a pivotal scene in Lynch’s 2001 psychological thriller “Mulholland Drive.”

The performance remains one of the film’s most iconic moments.

Her nephew, Dan Coronado, confirmed the news in a Facebook post:

“Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father’s Day.

“So grateful the kids got to hear her sing.”

“Her most famous song is titled ‘Llorando’… which I’m doing right now as I type this out.

“Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world.

“We love you,” Coronado wrote.

Just weeks before her death, Del Rio performed at a charity screening of “Mulholland Drive” in Los Angeles.

In a 2022 interview, she reflected on filming the movie’s iconic club scene:

“There were many takes,” she told IndieWire.

“I sang along because I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it.

“I also wanted the beautiful girls on the balcony, Laura and Naomi, to experience it live.”

Del Rio would go on to collaborate with director David Lynch again, including in the 2017 “Twin Peaks: The Return” series.

Tributes poured in online following her passing.

One fan wrote, “Just learned that Rebekah Del Rio passed away.

“RIP to an incredible voice.”

Another commented, “Never understood why she wasn’t a household name.”

“RIP Rebekah Del Rio,” one user wrote.

“Just like in Mulholland Drive, her voice keeps going when she’s not there.

“And what a voice it is.”

Her death follows the recent passing of David Lynch himself, the acclaimed director behind “Twin Peaks,” “Blue Velvet,” and “Mulholland Drive.”

Lynch died suddenly in January at the age of 78 from cardiac arrest.

Rebekah Del Rio leaves behind a legacy of vocal artistry that touched fans across generations.

Her rendition of “Llorando” remains a haunting cinematic treasure.

The performance is now made more poignant in her absence.
