An anti-ICE protest at a Washington state high school escalated into arrests Friday after students allegedly assaulted civilians and obstructed police officers, with video of one detainee suffering an epic meltdown and screaming, “I want my mommy!” rapidly spreading online.
The incident occurred at Enumclaw High School during a student walkout protesting federal immigration enforcement activity, according to local reporting.
Authorities recommended charges of fourth-degree assault, obstruction, and resisting arrest for one suspect, while the second student faces a recommended obstruction charge.
Police Emphasize Public Safety and Accountability
Enumclaw Police Chief Timothy Floyd said many demonstrators participated peacefully and with sincere conviction.
However, Floyd stressed that criminal conduct would not be tolerated.
“Many individuals who participated in the recent protest did so with passion and a genuine desire to be heard, and that matters in a healthy democracy,” Floyd said.
“At the same time, our officers have a responsibility to maintain public safety for everyone – protestors, bystanders, business owners, and residents.
“The arrests that occurred were not about silencing voices or viewpoints. …
“Being involved in a protest does not give one a free pass to commit crimes.”
Floyd added that he was “extremely proud” of the officers’ conduct during the confrontation.
“They showed teamwork, professionalism, and restraint while getting pushed, kicked at, spit at, and called significantly derogatory names.
“Assaultive behavior towards an EPD officer will not be tolerated, ignored, or go undealt with.”
Viral Footage Sparks National Reaction
Footage of one arrested student crying out for her mother while being taken into custody quickly circulated on social media, drawing sharp criticism from conservative commentators.
The protester was filmed repeatedly demanding, “I want my mommy!” while being led away by police officers.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham wrote:
“The fact that young people behave like this in public schools – or any other schools – is APPALLING.
“Imagine the parents who model this conduct.
“Imagine the teachers who encourage it.”
Juanita Broaddrick, who has publicly accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual assault, added:
“These kids are being used by teachers and other activist adults as props.”
Protests by high school students over ICE arrests have already led to dangerous situations — including an incident in Enumclaw, WA where students assaulted someone and harassed police during arrests. That’s not “heroic” — it’s disorder.

Broader Debate Over Student Activism and Law Enforcement
The confrontation underscores growing tensions surrounding anti-ICE activism in schools and communities across the country.
Democrats and their corporate media allies frame the student walkouts as political expression.
However, law enforcement officials continue to emphasize that protests do not exempt participants from criminal statutes.
With charges now pending and video of the arrest fueling national debate, the Enumclaw incident highlights the increasingly volatile intersection of youth activism, immigration politics, and public-order enforcement.
