New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) released a Spanish-language public service announcement informing illegal aliens that they are eligible for “free” daycare in the city.
In the new video, the two Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) members assure illegal aliens that they can sign up for the program, regardless of immigration status.
At the beginning of the video, Mamdani acknowledged his limited Spanish skills.
“Mi español .. no es el major,” Mamdani said, translating to “my Spanish is not great.”
Ocasio-Cortez responded in Spanish, reassuring Mamdani before explaining that “all” parents living in New York can register their children for “free” daycare programs regardless of “income or immigration status.”

The PSA quickly drew criticism on social media.
“Democrats are taking Americans’ money and spending it on foreign invaders,” the account Libs of TikTok posted on X.
Another user, Fweedom, shared an image depicting illegal immigrants standing on a wooden plank balanced on the backs of struggling middle-class Americans.
“Free” Childcare Expansion
A press release on Mamdani’s official mayoral website states that “child care remains one of the largest financial burdens facing New York families.
“Programs like 3-K and Pre-K are free, open to any child turning three or four this year, and can put an average $26,000 back in the pockets of working people.”
The release does not limit eligibility based on immigration status.
Mamdani, a self-described “democratic socialist,” has previously faced criticism over other controversies.
Last month, he became the first New York City mayor in at least 86 years to skip the installation ceremony of the city’s archbishop.
Although Mamdani congratulated Archbishop Ronald Hicks on social media as the successor to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, he did not attend the inaugural Mass.
The move was a break with a tradition observed by New York mayors dating back to at least 1939.
Blue-State Resistance to Trump’s Immigration Agenda
The New York announcement comes as California’s Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled $35 million in taxpayer funds to support illegal immigrants with what his office described as “free” food assistance and related services.
According to Newsom’s office, the funds will go toward “philanthropic partners” to provide illegal immigrants with “free” food assistance and other resources.
The funding had been set aside by the Democrat-controlled legislature and comes in addition to state dollars already allocated for legal services for individuals facing deportation.
Newsom framed the move as a response to President Donald Trump’s nationwide immigration enforcement efforts.
“While the federal government targets hardworking families, California stands with them – uniting partners and funding local communities to help support their neighbors,” Newsom said.
He continued:
“The urgent need grows as the Trump Administration accelerates mass detention, tramples due process, and funds authoritarian enforcement with over $170 billion.
“As the Trump Administration chooses cruelty and chaos, California chooses community.”
A spokesperson for Newsom told CalMatters that the governor has been meeting with immigrant families and community leaders, adding:
“People are afraid to leave their homes, afraid to go to school or work, and unable to afford groceries.”
The developments underscore the growing divide between Democrat-led states and cities expanding taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal aliens and President Trump’s administration.
It comes as the Trump admin has intensified deportation efforts and interior enforcement nationwide, as mandated by the American people.
