Attorney Disciplinary Group Urged to Investigate NY AG Letitia James for ‘Illegal and Dishonest Conduct’

New York’s anti-Trump Democrat Attorney General Letitia James is now facing a formal bar complaint alleging “illegal and dishonest conduct.”

It comes just days after a Democrat-aligned, Clinton-appointed federal judge dismissed mortgage fraud charges against her.

The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) filed the complaint Friday with the state’s Attorney Grievance Committee, urging an immediate investigation into the accusations surrounding James’s 2020 real estate dealings.

“Fraud, misrepresentation, honesty and trustworthiness are all factors that the Rules of Professional Conduct expressly factor when weighing whether to discipline an attorney,” wrote Curtis Schube, CASA’s director of research and policy, in the four-page filing.

CASA argues that if a “preponderance of the evidence” confirms the allegations, James should face disciplinary action — including potential disbarment.

Mortgage Fraud Allegations Behind the Complaint

Federal prosecutors previously alleged that James misled a bank about her intentions for a Norfolk, Virginia, home she purchased in 2020.

She is accused of falsely claiming that the property would be a secondary residence while allegedly renting it out to family members instead.

The DOJ charged James with bank fraud involving a $109,000 mortgage and with making false statements to a financial institution.

But on November 24, U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie, appointed by President Bill Clinton, threw out the indictment entirely.

The activist judge ruled that Lindsey Halligan, serving as a special attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, “had no lawful authority” to bring the charges because she had not been properly confirmed.

Currie also tossed unrelated charges against former FBI Director James Comey, brought by the same attorney.

CASA: Serious Ethical Violations Demand Scrutiny

CASA’s filing notes that the dismissal on procedural grounds does not clear James of the underlying allegations and argues the bar must investigate the conduct itself, not the technicality that prevented prosecution.

The group has filed similar bar complaints against Comey in New York and Virginia.

While some outlets have labeled CASA “conservative,” the organization identifies itself as nonpartisan and focused on improving “safety and security” for Americans.

White House Responds: DOJ Will Appeal

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that the Justice Department intends to challenge the ruling that wiped out the charges before they reached trial.

“We believe the attorney in this case, Lindsey Halligan, is not only extremely qualified for this position, but she was in fact legally appointed,” Leavitt said.

“And I know the Department of Justice will be appealing this in very short order.”

Political Fallout Continues

James, already a deeply polarizing figure for spearheading aggressive legal warfare against conservatives, including President Donald Trump, now finds herself battling professional threats of her own.

If the grievance committee moves forward, the New York attorney general could face sanctions up to and including disbarment, placing enormous pressure on an official who has built her career on high-profile prosecutions.
