Cambodia Nominating Trump for Nobel Peace Prize Over Role in Negotiating Peace with Thailand

In a remarkable turn of events, Cambodia will nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after his successful intervention in bringing about a ceasefire agreement to end the country’s longstanding border conflict with Thailand.

Speaking to reporters in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol expressed his country’s gratitude for Trump’s decisive role in achieving peace in the region, acknowledging that the president played a central part in resolving a border conflict that had escalated in recent weeks.

“We acknowledge his great efforts for peace,” Chanthol said, offering a rare moment of international recognition for Trump’s diplomatic success.

The statement follows a series of peace initiatives orchestrated by the president, including his direct involvement in brokering a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

The announcement that Cambodia will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize comes on the heels of similar gestures from other world leaders.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently revealed that he had nominated Trump for the prestigious award.

Pakistani officials also pledged their support for his nomination in June for his role in helping resolve the tension between Pakistan and India.

Trump’s recent intervention in the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict came after an outbreak of violence that saw five Thai soldiers wounded in a land mine explosion.

What followed was a deadly five-day clash that left at least 43 people dead and displaced more than 300,000 individuals from both sides of the border.

Trump’s response was swift and firm.

During his recent trip to Scotland, Trump detailed his efforts to bring both parties to the negotiating table, saying:

“I don’t want to trade with anybody that’s killing each other.”

His intervention reportedly helped to end the deadlock, leading to a ceasefire being negotiated in Malaysia on Monday, marking a significant reduction in hostilities between the two nations.

“I solved that war… we solved it through trade,” Trump said, emphasizing how his direct involvement helped to prevent a potentially catastrophic escalation of violence.

The ceasefire, which was seen as a major breakthrough, was facilitated by Trump’s diplomatic pressure on both Cambodia and Thailand, urging them to reach an agreement or risk having the U.S. pull back from trade negotiations with both countries.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took to X, hailing Trump’s role in the peace deal.

“President Trump made this happen,” Leavitt wrote, reflecting the sentiment of many who believe Trump’s role in brokering the ceasefire merits further recognition.

“Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!”

The conflict had been simmering for years, but it reached a breaking point when the explosion from a land mine near the Cambodian-Thai border led to an exchange of fire between the two countries’ military forces.

Trump’s strong stance against the violence, coupled with his unique ability to influence both countries, helped push them toward a resolution.

Additionally, Chanthol, Cambodia’s top trade negotiator, also expressed gratitude for Trump’s handling of trade relations.

Under Trump’s leadership, Cambodia benefited from a reduced tariff rate of 19%, a significant improvement after the Trump administration had initially threatened to impose a devastating 49% tariff.

This change spared Cambodia’s crucial garment and footwear sectors from potentially catastrophic financial losses.

The U.S. played a crucial role in pushing for a reduction in tariffs, and Chanthol praised Trump’s administration for helping to stabilize Cambodia’s economy in a time of uncertainty.

These developments show how Trump’s diplomatic influence continues to be felt on the global stage, even as he shifts his focus back to domestic matters.

His efforts in the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire have not only brought peace to a volatile region but also further solidified his reputation as a president willing to engage in tough negotiations for the greater good of international stability.

In light of these successes, Trump’s actions continue to have a significant and lasting impact on global diplomacy.
