Far-left rapper Cardi B sparked fresh controversy Friday night after claiming that “the government” was responsible for an onstage fall during a performance in Las Vegas, just days after issuing threats against federal immigration agents at a separate concert.
The 33-year-old performer, whose full name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, tumbled backward off a chair while singing “Thotiana” at T-Mobile Arena.
Videos circulating online show her quickly recovering, pointing at the chair, and telling the crowd, “That was the government.”
After clips of the fall spread on social media, the anti-Trump singer claimed that the footage had been produced with artificial inteligence (AI).
Cardi posted on X:
“Can someone put a community note on this?
“This video is clearly Ai.”
Prior Threats Against ICE
The Las Vegas moment follows an earlier outburst during the opening of her tour in Southern California.
The rapper directed inflammatory remarks toward U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security.
“If ICE come in here we gone jump they asses,” Cardi told the audience to loud applause.
“B—h, I’ve got some bear mace in the back.”
She added, “They ain’t taking my fans,” before launching into her hit song “I Like It,” which features J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
Federal officials responded with pointed sarcasm.
“As long she doesn’t drug and rob our agents, we’ll consider that an improvement over her past behavior,” DHS said in a statement.
Political History and 2024 Alignment
The rapper has a long record of political activism aligned with Democrats and previously supported former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle, even speaking at a Milwaukee rally.
At the same time, she has expressed frustration with politics more broadly.
In an interview with Billboard, Cardi explained her recent silence:
“You know the reason why I’ve been so silent about politics?
“It’s because when I used to complain the past four years, I know for a fact that people watch my stuff. I know it.
“I know the White House watches my stuff.
“I have a big platform. I know they listen to what I say.”
She added:
“There’s a president that knows I’ve never supported him and it’s like if I say something, he’s not going to care.
“I tried to give people warnings and it is what it is.
“What I can do? What I can say?”
Cardi ultimately said she chose what she described as the “lesser evil” in 2024 when backing Harris.
Tour Continues Amid Backlash
Cardi launched her “Little Miss Drama Tour” in Palm Desert, California, and is scheduled to perform 35 shows in support of her second studio album, “Am I the Drama?”
Her latest onstage joke and earlier threats toward immigration agents have intensified criticism from conservatives, who view the rhetoric as reckless amid ongoing national debates over border security and federal enforcement.
