Chicago Mayor Orders ‘ICE-Free’ Zones to Block Federal Agents

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order Monday prohibiting federal immigration agents from using city-owned property for enforcement operations, even as President Donald Trump deploys National Guard troops to Illinois to combat crime and illegal immigration.

Johnson’s directive, part of his “Protecting Chicago Initiative,” designates city facilities as “ICE-free zones,” a move designed to frustrate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) efforts in the nation’s third-largest city.

“Today, we are signing an executive order aimed at reining in this out-of-control administration,” the radical Democrat mayor said at a press conference.

“The order establishes ICE-free zones.

“That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as staging grounds for these raids.”

Clash with Trump Administration

The order comes as Johnson and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to block the federalization and deployment of National Guard troops into Illinois.

“The Trump administration must end the war on Chicago,” Johnson declared.

“The Trump administration must end this war against Americans.

“The Trump administration must end its attempt to dismantle our democracy.”

During his remarks, Johnson accused conservatives of “wanting a rematch of the Civil War,” vowing that the city would resist what he described as federal overreach.

“Chicagoans are clear that militarizing our troops in our city as justification to further escalate a war in Chicago will not be tolerated,” he said.

Pritzker Calls It ‘Trump’s Invasion’

Pritzker, considered a possible 2028 Democratic presidential contender, echoed Johnson’s defiance over the weekend, rejecting Trump’s directive as “absolutely outrageous and un-American.”

“We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s invasion,” Pritzker said.

After Pritzker refused to deploy Illinois National Guard members, Trump authorized Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to send 400 Texas guardsmen to Illinois and Oregon to support federal operations.

White House Fires Back

The White House ridiculed Pritzker’s refusal, blasting the governor for prioritizing politics over public safety.

“Chicago is descending into lawlessness and chaos because this slob cares more about boosting his anti-Trump creds on X than he does about making his city safe,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said.

“Pritzker should be ashamed of himself,” she added.

Johnson’s Directive

Johnson has ordered Chicago agencies to identify properties previously used by ICE within the next five days and post notices barring federal officers from using them for immigration enforcement, processing, or staging.

“If the federal government violates this executive order, we will take them to court,” Johnson threatened, urging Trump to leave Chicago, “the freak alone.”
