Former NBC News anchor Chuck Todd has blasted media outlets for giving Hunter Biden a platform.
Todd argues that Hunter Biden’s recent appearances only serve to hurt the Democratic Party and distract from more important issues.
As the Democrats grapple with crushing losses in the 2024 election and struggle to regroup, Todd’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some party insiders that the Bidens need to step back from the public eye.
Hunter Biden, whose personal issues have been a consistent source of controversy, made headlines again after recent appearances on the “Channel 5” podcast, hosted by Andrew Callaghan.
The younger Biden also appeared on former DNC chair Jaime Harrison’s “At Our Table” podcast.
During these interviews, Biden made headlines with his heated defenses of his father, former President Joe Biden.
He also launched into hedlinbe-grabbing angry tirades against his critics.
Todd, not holding back, voiced his disapproval on his own podcast, saying, “I will never book Hunter Biden.”
He further explained his reasoning: “Number one, he’s not the candidate.
“He wasn’t on the ballot.
“Anything he says in defense of his father, I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but it doesn’t matter.
“He’s a son defending his father.”
Todd was particularly harsh on those who have chosen to give Hunter Biden a platform, saying:
“I have a real problem with the folks that are booking him.
“If you’ve chosen to book Hunter Biden, you’ve chosen to book spectacle.
“You’re not interested in surfacing new facts or providing a better understanding of what happened.
“It’s just, ‘Let’s give him a platform to settle some scores that maybe he wants to settle.'”
The veteran journalist argued that Hunter Biden’s public appearances not only hurt his own reputation but also negatively affect his father and the Democratic Party as a whole.
“I don’t think this does Hunter Biden any good,” Todd stated.
“I don’t think this does Joe Biden any good.
“It certainly doesn’t do the Democratic Party any good.”
Todd also took issue with the decision by former DNC chair Jaime Harrison to feature Hunter Biden on his podcast.
He expressed disbelief that such a move would be used to promote the podcast.
“It’s a choice who you book,” Todd said.
“If you’re putting Hunter Biden on, you know what you’re doing.
“Look, I think there’s a lot of things going on there.”
He also added that he’s a strong advocate for therapy but believes such personal issues should be dealt with privately.
“I don’t like it when politicians use the media or campaigns or voters for their own therapy,” Todd explained.
“Let’s not do it in public.
“Try to deal with your issues amongst yourself.”
Todd also shared his thoughts on Joe Biden’s decision to run for a second term as president.
He asserts that the Biden family wasn’t ready for the demands of a campaign.
“This is ultimately why I was critical of Joe and Joe Biden for running in the first place, because their family wasn’t ready for this,” he said.
Reflecting on the personal struggles the Biden family has faced, including the loss of Joe Biden’s first wife and daughter in a car accident in 1972 and the death of his son Beau in 2015, Todd suggested that the Bidens had not properly grieved before embarking on the presidential campaign.
“That was a family in crisis internally,” Todd concluded.
Todd’s comments underscore the growing concern among some Democrats about the Bidens’ involvement in public life.
Hunter Biden’s high-profile appearances, in particular, are distracting from the party’s ability to move forward.
Meanwhile, some have responded to his recent appearances by arguing that Hunter Biden could be the leader that the Democrats have been looking for.
However, if Hunter Biden is the Democrats’ best hope for a new leader, the party may be in far more trouble than they realize.
