A convicted criminal is now back behind bars after being released from prison early when his sentence was commuted by former President Joe Biden.
52-year-old Willie Frank Peterson was originally convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 2023.
According to federal prosecutors, Peterson conspired with Dothan pastor Kenneth Glasgow.
Glasgow is the half-brother of civil rights grifter Al Sharpton.
U.S. District Judge R. Austin Huffaker sentenced Glasgow on July 6, 2023, to serve 30 months behind bars on drug and theft charges.
Peterson was sentenced to six years and three months in prison.
According to court records, his sentence began on September 13, 2023.
On January 17, Biden signed an executive grant of clemency to release Peterson from prison,
Biden commuted Peterson’s sentence to 20 months, allowing him to leave custody shortly after.
But on Monday, Peterson was arrested on multiple drug-related offensives in Dothan, Alabama.
His arrest comes just two months and he was set free by Biden.
The Dothan Police Department charged Peterson with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
He was also charged with one count of possession of marijuana.
Alongside marijuana, Dothan police also charged Peterson with possessing cocaine, and hydrocodone, a semi-synthetic opioid.
Arrest warrants indicate he was apprehended at his State Avenue home.
In addition, Peterson was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and three firearms-related offenses, per police records.
In the final days of his presidency, Biden showed significant leniency with the number of criminals whose sentences he commuted.
On December 12, Biden commuted sentences for 1,500 people and pardoned 39 others.
He boasted about overseeing the “largest single-day grant of clemency.”
On January 17, he commuted the sentences of nearly 2,500 inmates.
Most of them were primarily those convicted of non-violent drug offenses.
In a statement at the time, Biden said:
“Today’s clemency action provides relief for individuals who received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes.
“With this action, I have now issued more individual pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.”
Peterson posted bond on his most recent charges.
