A House Democrat has just moved to impeach Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The move is escalating an internal party clash as two Michigan Democrats seek to draw sharp contrasts ahead of competitive primaries.
Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) announced Wednesday that she had formally introduced articles of impeachment against Kennedy.
She is arguing that RFK Jr. has “failed in his role” and poses a danger to the public.
In a statement posted on social media, Stevens wrote:
“Today, I formally introduced articles of impeachment against Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
“RFK Jr. has turned his back on science and the safety of the American people.
“Michiganders cannot take another day of his chaos.”

An HHS spokesperson dismissed the impeachment effort as a political ploy.
Spokesman Andrew Nixon told NBC News:
“Secretary Kennedy remains focused on the work of improving Americans’ health and lowering costs, not on partisan political stunts.”
Second Michigan Democrat launches impeachment this week
Stevens’ move comes just days after fellow Michigan Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) filed articles of impeachment against War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
It’s a remarkable development that has two Democrats attempting to oust two sitting members of President Donald Trump’s cabinet.
Thanedar cited reports that Hegseth issued orders to “kill everybody” on a small vessel allegedly tied to drug trafficking.
The congressman suggested that narco-terrorists killed during strikes against cartel drug boats were likely innocent.
“Pete Hegseth has been using the United States military to extrajudicially assassinate people without evidence of any crime,” Thanedar claimed.
“Former military attorneys have come out and asserted that his conduct constitutes war crimes.
“We cannot allow his reprehensible conduct to continue, which is why I have filed these articles to impeach him.”
Two vulnerable incumbents, two impeachment gambits
Both Stevens and Thanedar are facing tough Democrat primaries heading into the 2026 cycle.
Their inter-party battles are fueling speculation that the impeachment filings are aimed at shoring up support from the Democrats’ activist base.
The dual efforts underscore the widening ideological rift inside the Democratic Party and create an unexpected early-term test for a Trump administration that has so far brushed off talk of impeachment as partisan theater.
