A group of House Democrats is suing the Trump administration, alleging that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is obstructing congressional oversight of immigration detention centers.
The group is led by anti-Trump Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).
The lawsuit claims that the administration is blocking members of Congress from accessing facilities housing illegal aliens and preventing them from obtaining critical information about detainees.
The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, is supported by a legal firm with deep ties to the Open Society Foundations (OSF).
OSF is the globalist organization founded and funded by radical billionaire George Soros.
This connection raises further concerns about the influence of left-wing, billionaire-funded organizations on the legal battles surrounding immigration policy under the Trump administration.
Raskin, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, issued a statement accusing DHS of systematically violating the constitutional rights of Congress to conduct oversight.
“The Trump Administration is systematically violating our legal right as Members of Congress to conduct oversight of DHS facilities,” Raskin said.
“This blockade of Congress, deliberately interfering with our constitutional duty to perform oversight of the immigration system, is designed to stop us from checking out reports of inhumane treatment and denial of fundamental rights to immigrants in detention.”
The Democrats claim that DHS’s actions are part of a broader effort to evade scrutiny and prevent public awareness of alleged human rights violations in immigration detention centers.
“President Trump and Secretary Noem believe they can block scrutiny of their lawless immigration enforcement sweep by closing out Members of Congress,” Raskin added.
“But these brazen attempts to rebuff us — in stark violation of federal law — only deepen our resolve to get information to the American people.”
Other Democratic members of Congress joining Raskin in the lawsuit include Reps. Joe Neguse (D-CO), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Robert Garcia (D-CA), Lou Correa (D-CA), Jason Crow (D-CO), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Dan Goldman (D-NY), Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), Raul Ruiz (D-CA), and Norma Torres (D-CA).
The lawsuit is backed by the legal teams from Democracy Forward and American Oversight.
Both groups are known for their left-wing ties and aggressive legal challenges to the Trump administration.
Democracy Forward, in particular, partners with organizations such as the Center for American Progress, which receives significant funding from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations.
The ties to the globalist billionaire are fueling concerns over the growing influence of Soros-backed entities in shaping U.S. immigration policy through the courts.
Democracy Forward has been behind numerous lawsuits aimed at undermining the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.
These include challenges to federal agents arresting illegal aliens at courthouses and attempts to block the use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport individuals classified as terrorists by the State Department.
The case, titled Joe Neguse et al. v. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement et al, is set to continue in the courts as it seeks to force the Trump administration to release more information on its immigration detention practices.
This latest move by House Democrats comes at a time when the Trump administration’s hardline immigration policies continue to be a major point of contention.
Critics argue that these legal efforts, funded by left-wing organizations, are part of an ongoing strategy to undermine the administration’s actions and further the agenda of open borders.
While the case remains in the early stages, the ongoing battle over Trump’s response to illegal immigration is likely to continue.
