California Democrats have lashed out at the Supreme Court after a 6-3 ruling gave President Donald Trump’s administration the green light to continue immigration enforcement raids in Los Angeles.
Democrats are accusing the High Court of enabling a “parade of racial terror.”
California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, a longtime political adversary of Trump, blasted the decision on X:
“@realDonaldTrump’s hand-picked SCOTUS majority just became the Grand Marshal for a parade of racial terror in LA.
“His administration is targeting Latinos — and anyone who doesn’t look or sound like @StephenM’s idea of an American — to deliberately harm our families and economy.”
The Court’s ruling overturned a Ninth Circuit decision that had upheld a lower court order blocking ICE raids in Los Angeles County.
That order, issued in July, claimed the Trump administration’s enforcement actions were “likely unconstitutional” because some detentions involved individuals who appeared Latino or spoke Spanish.
Newsom was joined by Los Angeles’ Democrat Mayor Karen Bass and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA).
Both Bass and DSchiff denounced the decision and attacked the Trump administration.
In a statement, Schiff pushed false claims that Trump is targeting “U.S. citizens and legal residents” based on their race.
However, the raids are targeting illegal aliens, regardless of the race or language they speak.
“This Administration rounded up and arrested California residents, including U.S. citizens and legal residents, based on the color of their skin or the language they speak,” Schiff posted to X.
“This is blatantly illegal, yet the Supreme Court is allowing it to happen while the case proceeds.
“When the history of this country’s rapid descent into dictatorship is written, Republicans in Congress and the Roberts Court will have been its primary enabler.”

Schiff, who has spent years trying to bring down Trump through investigations into Russia, impeachment, and January 6, is currently under a Department of Justice investigation for alleged mortgage fraud uncovered during Trump’s second administration.
Bass likewise accused the Court of unleashing an attack on the nation:
“I want the entire nation to hear me when I say this isn’t just an attack on the people of LA, this is an attack on every person in every city in this country.
“Today’s ruling is not only dangerous – it’s un-American and threatens the fabric of personal freedom in the U.S.”
Bass added in a press release: “Let me be clear: we will not allow the White House, nor the Supreme Court, to divide us.
“And to all Angelenos, I will never stop fighting for your rights, your dignity, and your safety, despite this administration’s efforts to threaten them. We will stand united.”

The Supreme Court majority did not issue a detailed explanation.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh, however, wrote separately, clarifying that race or ethnicity could not be the sole basis for a stop but could be considered along with other factors.
“Apparent ethnicity alone cannot furnish reasonable suspicion; under this Court’s case law regarding immigration stops, however, it can be a ‘relevant factor’ when considered along with other salient factors,” Kavanaugh wrote.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, calling the order “troubling” and warning against immigration enforcement based on language or appearance.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration welcomed the ruling as a victory for law enforcement and public safety.
“This is a win for the safety of Californians and the rule of law,” said Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, according to Politico.
“DHS law enforcement will not be slowed down and will continue to arrest and remove the murderers, rapists, gang members, and other criminal illegal aliens… .”
The raids stem from Trump’s June directive ordering ICE to target illegal immigrants in Los Angeles, a city that declared itself a “sanctuary” jurisdiction for illegal immigrants just before Trump returned to the White House.
California’s Democrat leaders responded by encouraging defiance, sparking riots and protests in the city as federal officials carried out removals.
