DHS: Aggressive Rhetoric from ‘Sanctuary Politicians’ Caused Assaults on ICE Officers to Surge More Than 1,150%

Assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have skyrocketed this year, according to new data released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The DHS report reveals a more than 1,150% increase in assaults on ICE agents compared to the same period in 2024.

Between January 21 and November 21, DHS recorded 238 assaults against ICE personnel.

During the same timeframe last year, the total was just 19.

Officials say the explosion in violence is directly tied to increasingly hostile rhetoric from sanctuary-jurisdiction leaders and some Democrat politicians.

“Sanctuary politicians need to tone the rhetoric down before a law enforcement officer is killed,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin warned.

“They should be thanking these brave law enforcement officers who risk their lives every single day to arrest pedophiles, rapists, murderers, gang members, and terrorists from our neighborhoods.”

McLaughlin added that the sharp rise follows “months of Democrat politicians comparing ICE to Nazis, the Gestapo, slave patrols, and even encouraging illegal aliens to resist arrest.”

“After months of Democrat politicians comparing ICE to Nazis, the Gestapo, slave patrols, and even encouraging illegal aliens to resist arrest, our brave ICE law enforcement officers have been assaulted 238 times,” she said.

DHS Describes a Wave of Violent Attacks

According to DHS, ICE agents across the country are facing a “dangerously escalating pattern” of violence ranging from physical assaults, such as hitting, spitting, kicking, and biting, to severe attacks including car-ramming, gunfire, and Molotov cocktails.

Among the reported incidents:

  • One officer required 13 stitches after being struck in the face with a metal coffee cup.

  • Another suffered a concussion after a violent attack during the arrest of a criminal illegal alien.

  • Agents have had Molotov cocktails and rocks thrown at them, been shot at, and had vehicles used as weapons.

In September, Guatemalan national Henry Isaul Garcia allegedly reversed his car into an ICE agent’s leg during an arrest attempt in Homestead, Florida, nearly crushing the officer.

On July 4, former Marine reservist Benjamin Hanil Song was allegedly part of an organized ambush against officers at the Prairieland Detention Center, where at least 10 individuals opened fire on federal personnel.

In June, fugitive Eric Anthony Rodriguez, with convictions including assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, allegedly attempted to attack officers with a Molotov cocktail at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport.

The hotel housed 15 ICE and 12 CBP officers at the time.

“These nationwide incidents show how ICE officers are being targeted because of the badge they wear, not just the enforcement operations they execute on behalf of the American people,” DHS said.

‘An Attack on the Rule of Law Itself’

DHS emphasized that targeting federal officers is not merely violence against individuals, but an assault on the nation’s legal system.
