DOJ Admits Mysterious Unidentified Person Was Outside Epstein’s Cell

Newly released documents are intensifying long-standing questions surrounding the death of Jeffrey Epstein, revealing that federal investigators acknowledged surveillance footage captured an unidentified presence moving toward the area of his jail cell on the night he supposedly died.

The latest release of the Epstein Files includes documents from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), revealing that federal investigators agree with “conspiracy theorists” that a mysterious person was caught on camera moving up the staircase outside the sex trafficker’s cell.

Epstein’s 2019 supposed death inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City has remained deeply controversial, marked by a cascade of unexplained failures, missing evidence, and conflicting accounts.

Surveillance Footage Raises New Questions

According to the newly disclosed materials, investigators reviewing video from the prison observed an unexplained movement shortly before Epstein’s reported death.

“A flash of orange looks to be going up the L Tier stairs — could possibly be an inmate escorted up to that Tier,” CBS News reported from an observation log tied to the footage.

The same reporting noted internal disagreement among investigators:

“It also appears, according to an FBI memorandum, that reviews by investigators led to disparate conclusions by the FBI and those examining the same video from the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General.”

The orange movement was officially described as “possibly an inmate.”

Yet the inspector general ultimately logged it as an unidentified corrections officer carrying orange linen or bedding, despite officers on duty reportedly stating no linens were replaced during that shift.

The log entry states:

“At approximately 10:39 p.m., an unidentified CO appeared to walk up the L Tier stairway, and then reappeared within view of the camera at 10:41 p.m.”

Missing Evidence and Conflicting Testimony

Epstein was officially declared dead by suicide sometime before 6:30 a.m., but key physical evidence remains unresolved, most notably the alleged noose.

Investigators questioned staff about the ligature:

“I don’t recall taking the noose off. I really don’t,” one response stated.

“I don’t recall taking the thing from around his neck.”

Another witness reported seeing Epstein lowered to the floor but did not see a noose around his neck.

According to the inspector general’s findings, a noose collected at the scene was later determined not to be the ligature used in Epstein’s death.

Cascade of Security Failures

Beyond the disputed footage and missing evidence, the records outline a sweeping breakdown of prison protocol on the night Epstein died:

   • No cellmate assigned despite explicit suicide-watch directives.

   • Unmonitored phone call placed from a restricted area in violation of Bureau of Prisons policy.

   • Falsified inmate counts and security rounds, including more than 75 inaccurate log entries.

   • No monitoring of Epstein for nearly eight hours before he was discovered.

   • Excess linens and potential ligature materials were left inside his cell without a proper search.

   • Security camera malfunction that limited full video review.

   • Extreme staff fatigue, including officers working marathon shifts and appearing asleep on duty.

   • Prior unexplained incident weeks earlier involving a cloth around Epstein’s neck.

Conflicting Claims from Former Cellmate

Epstein’s former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, a former New York police officer who was later convicted of multiple murders, made explosive allegations in a pardon filing.

Tartaglione claims that prosecutors pressured Epstein to implicate President Donald Trump.

The prosecutor in charge of Epstein’s case was anti-Trump former FBI Director James Comey’s daughter, Maurene Comey.

“Prosecutors … told Epstein that if he said President Trump was involved with Epstein’s crimes, he would walk free,” the filing stated.

“Epstein told me that Maurene Comey said that he didn’t have to prove anything, as long as President Trump’s people could not disprove it.”

“According to Maurene Comey, the FBI were ‘her people, not his [President Trump’s].’”

Witness Claims Epstein Was Replaced

Elsewhere in the latest document release were files legitimizing a witness claim that Epstein was removed from his cell in the middle of the night and replaced with a body.

As Slay News reported, the claim, first posted anonymously online in the early hours of August 10, 2019, came from an individual identifying himself as a prison employee at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan.

The witness alleged that Epstein was “switched out” of the facility in a van and that his death was later staged to appear as a suicide.

At the time, the post was aggressively dismissed by the corporate media as a “conspiracy theory.”

However, one crucial detail was impossible to ignore: the post appeared roughly one hour before Epstein’s death was publicly reported, strongly suggesting inside knowledge of events unfolding at the jail.

While the media publicly mocked the post, federal authorities appear to have taken it far more seriously.

The day after Epstein’s death, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman of the Southern District of New York opened a grand jury investigation and issued subpoenas to:

  • 4Chan
  • Apple
  • AT&T
  • Citibank

The goal was to identify the individual behind the post.

That anonymous witness has now been identified.

According to documents contained in the newly released Epstein files, the person behind the post was Roberto Grijalva, a correctional officer at the MCC.

Official Ruling Still Stands

Despite the mounting irregularities, unidentified movement near the cell, missing ligature evidence, falsified records, security failures, and disputed testimony, the official conclusion remains unchanged.

Epstein’s cause of death is still recorded as an apparent “suicide.”
