Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has ignited a political firestorm after reposting a resurfaced video of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and accusing the radical Democrat congresswoman of treason for pledging to use her position in Congress to protect Somalia’s interests.
“This sounds like treason,” Musk wrote on X.
Musk made the remark while responding to a clip of Omar telling Somali constituents in Minnesota that “The U.S. government will do what we ask it to do.”
Omar continues by assuring Somalis that she would use her seat in Congress to block the breakaway Republic of Somaliland from allowing Ethiopia to build a naval base.

The remarks were originally made in January 2024 but resurfaced this week as Omar once again found herself at the center of a national controversy.
Omar Told Somali Constituents She Would Use Congress to Protect Somalia’s Coastline
Minnesota hosts the largest Somali refugee population in the U.S., concentrated heavily in Omar’s district.
In the video, widely shared online, Omar stresses that Somali-Americans should feel empowered to direct U.S. policy.
“We should have this kind of confidence in ourselves as Somalis,” the translated clip says.
“We live in this country.
“We are taxpayers in this country.
“This country is one where one of your daughters sits in Congress.
“While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea, and the U.S. government won’t support others to rob us.
“Don’t stress over it, Minnesotans.”

The video fueled outrage among critics who argue that Omar’s remarks echoed loyalty to a foreign country over the United States, an accusation President Donald Trump has raised before.
Trump: Omar “Prioritizes Somalia Over the U.S.”
The resurfaced clip gained new momentum hours after President Trump blasted Omar at a rally in Pennsylvania.
“I love this Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is, with the little turban,” Trump said.
“She comes in, does nothing but b—-.
“She comes from her country, where, I mean, it’s considered about the worst country in the world, right?
“We ought to get her the hell out.”
The crowd erupted into the familiar chant: “Send her back!”
Trump also referenced the long list of Somali-linked fraud schemes in Minnesota, with dozens indicted or charged, and hammered Democrat Gov. Tim Walz over roughly $1 billion in losses under his watch.
Omar Responds: “Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird”
Omar fired back Tuesday night, writing on X:
“Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird.
“He needs serious help…
“He continues to be a national embarrassment.”
Musk’s Accusation Escalates the Fight
Musk’s intervention dramatically escalated the controversy.
Treason is one of the gravest constitutional charges, defined as aiding enemies of the United States.
While the legal bar is extremely high, Musk’s commentary ensured the resurfaced video would dominate political discussion.
The growing scrutiny also dovetails with ongoing questions surrounding Omar’s past, including the recently revived allegations of immigration fraud, further amplifying public concern among conservatives that Omar’s role in Congress conflicts with U.S. interests.
