Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has thrown his support behind Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a staunch fiscal conservative who is opposing President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”
Massie is now facing backlash from the GOP establishment over his opposition to the House’s massive “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and his vocal criticism of Trump’s recent strikes against Iran.
The congressman was one of just two Republicans who voted against the sweeping domestic spending and border security bill that passed the House in May.
Massie blasted the package as a “record debt increase” and warned that Republicans who campaigned on cutting spending but backed the bill should “hang their head in shame.”
Musk didn’t hesitate to endorse Massie after former Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) publicly urged him to support the Kentucky lawmaker.
In a post on X, Musk declared:
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!
“And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Amash replied by urging Musk to back Massie.
“Please support @RepThomasMassie,” Amash wrote.
“The establishment is working to primary him because he’s a genuine fiscal conservative and opposes the Big, Bloated Scam.”
“I will,” Musk replied.
I will

When another user posted that they had donated to Massie’s re-election campaign and asked, “Who’s next?”, Musk responded simply: “Me.”
In a statement to Fox News, Massie said Musk’s ownership of X has already helped him bypass legacy media and speak directly to voters.
“Elon’s purchase of Twitter and cultivation of the X platform for free speech has already helped my cause immensely,” Massie said.
“It’s allowed me to bypass conventional media to refute the lies of both political parties and to provide transparency about how Congress works and what’s actually inside of the bills we vote on.”
Massie added that his re-election is about more than just one vote or foreign policy stance; it’s a test of whether independent thinkers can still survive in Washington.
“It’s a referendum on whether members of Congress can think and act independently based on what’s best for the country, or whether all members of Congress must be reduced to rubber stamps for their respective political parties and swampy special interests,” he said.
“I’m extremely thankful to have Elon Musk’s financial assistance to continue my mission as an independent voice in Congress.”
But Massie isn’t just facing heat from establishment Republicans.
Trump himself has gone after the Kentucky congressman in a series of Truth Social posts.
On June 22, Trump called Massie a “pathetic LOSER” and vowed to support a primary challenger, promising to campaign hard in Kentucky.
Trump followed up with additional posts on June 23 and June 24, further turning up the pressure on the libertarian-leaning lawmaker.
Despite the criticism, Massie’s campaign appears to be gaining steam.
“My campaign is fueled by the grassroots donors on this map; 3,417 of you donated $308,665 last week. Thank you!” Massie posted on Monday on his campaign X account.
With one of the world’s richest men now publicly backing his re-election bid, Massie’s primary fight could become a major 2026 flashpoint in the ongoing tug-of-war between conservative populists, traditional fiscal hawks, and the broader America First coalition.
