Elon Musk Donates $10 Million to Pro-Trump Republican Running for Mitch McConnell’s Senate Seat

The world’s richest man has made a major financial move in Kentucky’s upcoming U.S. Senate race, donating millions to a pro-Trump Republican candidate seeking to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after four decades in office.

According to a report from Axios, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk donated $10 million last week to the Fight for Kentucky super PAC.

The PAC is backing Nate Morris, the founder of waste and recycling company Rubicon.

McConnell announced last February that he would not seek an eighth term, opening the door to a high-profile and potentially contentious Republican primary.

MAGA Challenger Targets McConnell Legacy

Morris has positioned himself as a hardline MAGA candidate and a direct rebuke of McConnell’s long tenure in Washington.

In a campaign video titled “Garbage Day,” Morris labels McConnell a “career politician” and portrays himself as a disruptor intent on cleaning up the political establishment.

“We’ve let the garbage pile up in Washington, D.C., for far too long,” Morris says in the ad.

“I’m running for Senate to help President Trump clean up the mess.”

In the same video, Morris derides fellow Republican contenders, Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, as McConnell’s “puppets.”

Vance Connection Highlighted

Axios suggested that Musk’s support for Morris may be linked to JD Vance, whom the outlet described as close to Musk and a personal friend of Morris.

The report also noted that the donation could signal Musk’s intention to play a more active financial role in backing Republicans during the 2026 midterm cycle.

Morris did not confirm the donation but did share a post on X referencing the Axios report.

The Axios report did not include direct statements from either Musk or Morris.

Race Taking Shape

President Donald Trump has not yet endorsed a candidate in the Kentucky race.

On the Democrat side, several candidates have entered the contest, including Amy McGrath, who was defeated by McConnell in 2020.

Despite the crowded field, political observers expect the eventual Republican nominee to be heavily favored in the general election, making the GOP primary the decisive battle for the seat.

Musk’s multimillion-dollar donation has already reshaped the race, injecting significant resources into Morris’s campaign and underscoring the growing influence of pro-Trump donors in shaping the post-McConnell era of Kentucky politics.
