Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) alleged during a Sunday interview that her son was “pulled over” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after a late-night trip to Target, but ICE officials say there is no record of any such encounter.
As Slay News previously reported, Omar told CBS Minnesota’s WCCO that ICE had stopped her son and only released him because he always carries his passport to prove his identity.
Omar claimed, “Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by ICE agents, and once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go.”

However, according to Newsmax correspondent James Rosen, ICE says the incident never occurred.
“Officials @ICEgov tell @NEWSMAX the agency has no record of stopping a car driven by the son of @Ilhan, as the congresswoman claimed,” Rosen reported Monday.
He added that Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons dismissed the allegation as a “ridiculous effort to unfairly demonize our law enforcement officers.”
Omar’s claim comes amid heightened ICE operations in Minnesota, where federal authorities are ramping up arrests of illegal aliens as part of the Trump administration’s broader enforcement push.
Omar has repeatedly accused President Donald Trump of singling out Somali communities in the state.
In a letter last week addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Acting Director Lyons, Omar accused ICE of racial profiling and misconduct.
She accused ICE of “blatant racial profiling, an egregious level of unnecessary force, and activity that appears designed for social media rather than befitting a law enforcement agency.”
The congresswoman also claimed the renewed enforcement was triggered by Trump’s recent comments.
“It is clear to me that this surge came in direct response to Trump’s racist comments about Somali people, and about me in particular,” she wrote.
“Earlier this month, Trump called Somali immigrants ‘garbage’ and ranted that he does not want us in this country.”
Omar did not provide evidence for any of the allegations, however.
The controversy comes as Minnesota grapples with one of the largest fraud scandals in state history involving billions of taxpayer dollars siphoned through nonprofits and funneled to executives and Al-Shabaab-linked operatives.
Federal prosecutors say the vast majority of those charged in the scheme are Somali nationals.
U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson described the sheer scale of the corruption as staggering:
“What we see are schemes stacked upon schemes, draining resources meant for those in need.
“It feels never-ending,” he lamented.
“I have spent my career as a fraud prosecutor, and the depth of the fraud in Minnesota takes my breath away.”
The contradiction between Omar’s explosive claim and ICE’s flat denial is likely to intensify scrutiny as federal authorities continue high-profile investigations and enforcement actions in her district.
