Fetterman: Democrats Are Too ‘Afraid’ to ‘Agree with Trump on Anything’

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said Wednesday that many Democrats oppose President Donald Trump on major national security issues simply because they fear being seen agreeing with him.

Fetterman made the remarks during an appearance on Fox News’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” where he discussed the recent U.S. strikes against Iran and the reaction from members of his own party.

According to Fetterman, many Democrats privately agree with the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons but publicly criticize the administration because they do not want to be seen supporting Trump.

Fetterman Defends U.S. Military Action

Host Jesse Watters asked Fetterman why some Democrats were publicly warning that the military operation could lead to a prolonged conflict.

“All right, Senator, you go to these classified briefings with your colleagues,” Watters said.

“Why are Democrats running out of the briefing and screaming that this is a Forever War, and it’s only Wednesday.”

Fetterman responded by pointing to recent footage of military operations against Iranian targets.

“Yes, well, I mean, I just wanted to say that I watched, like, the highlights that you showed, especially the ship getting blown out of the water,” Fetterman said.

“Now, I remember the Iranian generals were saying that our ships were going to end at the bottom of the ocean, and that’s theirs.

“Like, look at that again. It’s on the screen right now. Boom!

“You know, like, I love it, you know what I mean?”

‘Afraid to Agree With Trump’

Fetterman argued that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon has long been a bipartisan objective.

“I guarantee you, every single member of the Congress that you just had there said we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb,” he said.

“And now, now that that’s happened now, and now it’s made that impossible right now, and then we all agree.”

He said the reluctance among Democrats to acknowledge the outcome stems from political pressure within the party.

“But you know, because they’re — as a Democrat, they’re afraid to just agree with Trump on anything, anything at this point,” Fetterman said.

“Now, hey, I’m going to agree with it.

“I’m always going to pick my country over my party, and I’m always going to acknowledge when good things happen.”

Democrats’ Middle East Strategy

Fetterman also criticized what he described as the Democratic Party’s approach to the Middle East since the October 7 attacks.

“And now we also forget, you know, really the Democratic Party, ever since 10/7, it has been absolutely wrong about the dynamic in the Middle East now,” he said.

“Ceasefire, ceasefire, ceasefire!”

Fetterman argued that if ceasefire demands had succeeded earlier, militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah could have remained intact.

“Imagine if they were pushed into a ceasefire in the summer of 2024, Hamas would still be intact,” he said.

“Hezbollah would be intact, and Iran could, very much could have acquired a nuclear weapon by that point.”

He also noted that he supported previous strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“I was the only Democrat that supported President Trump struck the nuclear facilities last summer,” Fetterman said.

Fetterman said the recent operations have significantly damaged Iran’s ability to threaten the region.

“Now here we are, and now we have this regime, we just witnessed after they massacred tens of thousands of their young people, and that is a threat on our nation and our American interests in the region,” he said.

“Now someone did about it, and now I can celebrate that.”

“Just you know when you see how effective that we’ve had, and now we’ve also discovered that Iran now just doesn’t have a shot to even shoot at this point,” Fetterman added.
