Democrat Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is criticizing members of his own party for opposing President Donald Trump’s military strikes against Iran, declaring that he is putting “country over party.”
The senator is arguing that some Democrats refuse to acknowledge the success of the strikes simply because the operation was ordered by Trump.
Fetterman defended the strikes during an interview on Fox News’ “Saturday in America.”
He noted that the operation helped prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear weapons.
“I don’t know why we can’t just be honest,” Fetterman said.
“The last two professional candidates for the Democratic Party all agreed that we can never allow Iran to acquire nuclear bombs, and that’s made that possible now.”
“I think we can say, ‘Hey, that’s a great thing. That makes the world more safe, more secure and holds Iran accountable.’”
Fetterman Breaks With Democrats
Fetterman’s remarks come as many Democrats have sharply criticized the Trump administration’s military campaign against Iran.
He noted that 53 House Democrats voted against a resolution declaring Iran a state sponsor of terrorism, a vote he said reflects a troubling shift inside the party.
“That’s almost 25% of Democrats in the House that can’t just call Iran the world’s biggest terrorism underwriter,” Fetterman said.
The Pennsylvania senator also broke with his party earlier this week by voting against a Senate resolution aimed at limiting President Trump’s war powers related to the conflict.
‘Country Over Party’
Fetterman said many Democrats privately support preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons but refuse to say so publicly because it would align them with Trump.
“Virtually every Democrat that I’m aware of says we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb,” he said.
“I know why they don’t say that now because I’m aware that it is very damaging as a Democrat to just happen to agree with the president on anything.”
“But, for me, that’s easy — country over party.”

Democrats Pushing Back
Fetterman made similar comments during an earlier appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
Host Jesse Watters asked why some Democrats were warning that the military operation could escalate into a prolonged war.
“All right, Senator, you go to these classified briefings with your colleagues,” Watters said.
“Why are Democrats running out of the briefing and screaming that this is a Forever War, and it’s only Wednesday?”
Fetterman responded by pointing to recent footage of military operations against Iranian targets and reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons has long been a bipartisan objective.
“I guarantee you, every single member of the Congress that you just had there said we can never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb,” he said.
“And now, now that that’s happened now, and now it’s made that impossible right now, and then we all agree.”
Democrats Afraid to Back Trump
According to Fetterman, political pressure inside the Democratic Party is preventing members from acknowledging what he views as a successful military outcome.
“But you know, because they’re — as a Democrat, they’re afraid to just agree with Trump on anything, anything at this point,” Fetterman said.
“Now, hey, I’m going to agree with it.”
“I’m always going to pick my country over my party, and I’m always going to acknowledge when good things happen.”
