Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is taking a firm stance against the growing trend of allowing biological males to compete in female sports.
On Tuesday, Uthmeier demanded that U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) change its gender participation policy and end its war on women.
The policy currently allows male swimmers to compete against women.
USMS also allows men to access private female spaces such as locker rooms.
If the Florida-based organization fails to comply, Uthmeier threatened legal action.
At a news conference, Uthmeier addressed the board of USMS and made it clear that Florida will not stand by while this harmful practice continues.
“This is not acceptable and does not fly with Florida law,” he stated, according to Fox 35 Orlando.
“This is not right. We will use every tool at our disposal to ensure that we are protecting women and girls.”
Uthmeier’s comments came after USMS updated its guidelines last month, allowing members to participate in the competition category that aligns with their chosen “gender identity” or “expression.”
The policy states that while swimmers can compete according to their “gender identity,” they will not be eligible for “Recognition Programs” unless they swim in the category that matches their biological sex, or meet specific eligibility requirements.
The policy also outlines that “Members of the Female Sex are eligible for Recognition Programs in the women’s category, regardless of their gender identity or gender expression.”
However, Uthmeier argues that this policy does not go far enough to protect women’s sports.
He emphasized that the policy still allows for males identifying as women to compete in female categories, and this “does not fly with Florida law.”
He went on to reiterate Florida’s commitment to protecting women and girls, saying:
“It still seems insane to me that we’re having this conversation in this country, but we will always fight for what’s right in Florida.
“We’re the state that woke goes to die, and that’s going to continue.
“We will always fight for what’s right and just.”
U.S. Masters Swimming, which has not yet issued a statement on the matter, came under intense scrutiny earlier this year when a transgender swimmer won five gold medals in the women’s category.
This incident has prompted widespread backlash from concerned citizens, including Louisiana swimmer Wendy Enderle.
Enderle, who has competed in USMS for years, filed a request for an eligibility review after discovering that one of her longtime competitors was transgender.
The controversy surrounding USMS has not gone unnoticed in Texas.
After the controversial race in San Antonio, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched an investigation into whether USMS’s policies violate the state’s consumer protection laws.
Uthmeier’s actions reflect Florida’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights of women and ensuring fairness in competitive sports.
His threat of legal action underscores the importance of standing firm in the face of attempts to erode women’s rights in the name of political correctness.
Florida is making it clear that protecting women is not up for debate.
