A sprawling grantmaking network tied to billionaire George Soros has been caught funneling cash to a UK censorship outfit that openly plotted to “kill” Elon Musk’s X platform and shut down conservative media outlets.
The effort was exposed in a bombshell report from the Washington Free Beacon.
Soros’ Open Society Foundation (OSF) awarded the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) a $250,000 grant last year for so-called “general support.”
But as documents show, this group isn’t fighting “hate.”
It’s attempting to strangle political dissent and erase conservative voices from the digital public square.
The CCDH is run by Imran Ahmed, a former operative of the UK’s ruling far-left Labour Party.
The report is not limited to the UK, however, and mainly focuses on U.S. news outlets and social media platforms.
The organization has spent years targeting conservative outlets, including Slay News, The Federalist, and The Daily Wire.
The group is flagging conservative speech as “racist,” and lobbying to create an unelected “independent digital regulator.”
The CCDH pressures advertisers to boycott websites deemed to promote “hate” or “disinformation” in an effort to deplatform them.
However, the results of the pressure campaign amplify left-wing talking points while silencing conservatives, a model long championed by the so-called “fact-checking” industry.
It’s a foreign bureaucratic speech police force that the American public never asked for.
But its most prominent attacks have been aimed squarely at Elon Musk’s X.
According to whistleblower documents published last year, the CCDH’s internal strategy lists one chilling mission at the top of its priorities:
“Kill Musk’s Twitter.”
Yet, this wasn’t metaphorical.
The group sought to pressure advertisers, stoke media fear campaigns, and kneecap the platform precisely because Musk refused to toe the censorship line that flourished under previous ownership.
Musk has openly blasted the CCDH and Soros for attempting to collapse X through coordinated pressure campaigns.
The tech mogul even attempted a lawsuit last year after the group launched what he called a “scare campaign” to drive advertisers away.
Musk has also accused Soros of “crimes against humanity” and of funding attacks on Tesla earlier this year.
And President Donald Trump has already made clear that Soros’s influence machine is on notice.
Trump has said his administration will move to sue Soros, accusing the Hungarian-born billionaire of using “professional agitators” to spark riots across the United States.
For years, critics of Soros and his global network of NGOs have warned that they don’t just meddle in foreign politics; they reshape them.
They bankroll riots, interfere in elections, manipulate media ecosystems, and provide ideological cover for censorship under the banner of “safety” and “accountability.”
The revelation that Soros’ foundation bankrolled a foreign censorship group whose internal goal was literally to “kill” Musk’s platform only confirms what many already suspected:
These networks aren’t fighting hate; they’re fighting free speech.
And they won’t stop unless they’re forced to.
