George Soros & Beto O’Rourke Are Funding Democrats Fleeing Texas Over Redistricting

Radical billionaire George Soros and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) are reportedly behind the financial support for the Texas Democrats who fled the state to prevent the House from voting on a new congressional redistricting map.

The controversial exodus, which involved roughly 50 Texas Democrats heading to New York and Illinois, is being funded through two major groups: O’Rourke’s Powered by People (PBP) and the Soros-backed Texas Majority PAC.

Powered by People, a group founded by O’Rourke, has played a significant role in financing the escape.

The organization covered airfare, lodging, and even the $500-per-day fines the lawmakers face for skipping the legislative session, according to The Texas Tribune.

Meanwhile, the Soros-backed Texas Majority PAC has been collaborating with national fundraising organizations to raise additional funds for the Democrats’ strategy to block the redistricting vote.

PBP is actively soliciting donations on its website, promising that “100% of your donation will go to supporting Texas Democrats in their fight against Trump’s power grab.”

Neither PBP nor Texas Majority PAC has issued a statement on the matter.

The Texas Democrat caucus members argue that their fundraising efforts are in compliance with state law, despite some Republicans suggesting that paying the $500 fines with political donations may violate legislation passed in 2023.

That legislation specifies that political contributions cannot be used to cover these fines.

However, those involved in the fundraising are confident they have found a legal way to distribute funds to lawmakers to cover their expenses.

“Every dime of expense for this effort is being paid for lawfully,” the Texas House Democratic Caucus assured The Texas Tribune.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has already taken legal action against the Texas House Democrats.

The governor is specifically targeting Rep. Gene Wu, the chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus.

Wu is seen as one of the leaders of the walkout.

Abbott’s lawsuit argues that Wu’s actions are violating the Texas Constitution by depriving the state legislature of a quorum needed to conduct business.

“Representative Wu and the other Texas House Democrats have shown a willful refusal to return, and their absence for an indefinite period of time deprives the House of the quorum needed to meet and conduct business on behalf of Texans,” Abbott said in a statement.

“Texas House Democrats abandoned their duty to Texans, and there must be consequences.”

The Texas Supreme Court has ordered Wu to respond to the lawsuit by Friday.

While Wu has not yet filed a response, he made a statement to the press on Tuesday, defending his actions.

“Let me be unequivocal about my actions and my duty,” Wu stated.

“When a governor conspires with a disgraced president to ram through a racist gerrymandered map, my constitutional duty is to not be a willing participant.”

In response to the ongoing standoff, the Texas sergeant-at-arms was instructed to compel the return of the lawmakers, “under warrant of arrest, if necessary.”

President Donald Trump has weighed in on the matter, suggesting that the FBI or other federal law enforcement may need to get involved.

“A lot of people have demanded they come back,” Trump remarked.

“You can’t just sit it out.

“You have to go back.

“You have to fight it out.

“That’s what elections are all about.”
