A radical left-wing activist organization bankrolled by George Soros’ network is leading a campaign to push Senate Democrats into blocking government funding, even if it triggers a partial shutdown.
Indivisible, the same leftist group that organized “No Kings” protests and other anti-Trump demonstrations, is urging Democrat lawmakers to refuse any bipartisan deal with Republicans and President Donald Trump ahead of the September 30 deadline.
The group’s website is currently hosting a call-to-action tool that allows supporters to contact Democratic senators directly, complete with a script pressuring them to deny Trump what the group calls a “blank check.”
“Federal government funding runs out on September 30 — and Republicans need Democratic votes to clear the filibuster and avoid a government shutdown,” the script reads.
“Democrats have a strong hand to play.
“They must use it to deny Donald Trump the blank check Republicans want to hand him!”
According to Indivisible’s own disclosures, its political arm, the Indivisible Project, has received more than $7.6 million from Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) over the past eight years.
OSF, founded by George Soros and now chaired by his son Alexander, is one of the most influential left-wing grantmaking networks in the world.
The group’s latest push comes as Democratic leaders continue to resist Republican-passed continuing resolutions (CRs) that keep spending in check. Instead, Senate Democrats under Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have demanded funding bills that include sweeping progressive priorities.
In a message to supporters, Indivisible slammed Schumer for previously working with Republicans in March to prevent a shutdown, accusing him of helping Trump “weaponize federal funds to rob our services, militarize our cities, and terrorize our communities.”
The activist group went so far as to organize an event where participants wrote retirement cards urging Schumer to step aside as Senate Democrat leader.
At the time, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) piled on, publicly blasting Schumer and fueling speculation she could challenge him in a future primary.
A left-leaning poll released shortly after showed Ocasio-Cortez leading Schumer by nearly 20 points in a hypothetical 2028 matchup.
Meanwhile, the House passed a GOP-backed “clean” CR on Sept. 19 to fund the government through Nov. 21, with only one Democrat voting in favor.
The bill fell short in the Senate after Democrats blocked it. Schumer’s alternative proposal, which sought to roll back over $1 trillion in savings from Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA) and eliminate provisions preventing illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded health care, also failed on party lines.
The White House blasted the Soros-funded campaign and warned Democrats not to cave to their activist base.
“Senate Democrats must reject the Soros-funded pressure from the radical left and pass the clean CR,” a White House official said in a statement.
“More than one trillion dollars in new spending, taxpayer-funded health care for illegal aliens, half a billion dollars for left-wing media, and the elimination of the rural health care fund are all nonstarters – completely out of touch with what the American people want and deserve from their government.”
The official added that if Democrats force a shutdown, they will “own it,” noting that such a move would jeopardize law enforcement, cut benefits for women and children under WIC, and threaten health care for seniors.
President Trump is expected to meet with Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Monday, just one day before the deadline.
