Google has revealed that assassinated Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk was the top trending search term on its platform for 2025.
The news underscores the national impact of the conservative leader’s killing earlier this year.
Google announced that Kirk surpassed all other trending searches.
Kirk came out above radical Democrat New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, the Netflix film “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” Apple’s iPhone 17, and the 43-day fall government shutdown.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson on September 12.
Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Kirk during a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University two days earlier.
Kirk’s assassination was also the third-most searched news item of the year.
The results were revealed in Google’s annual Year in Search 2025 report.
The tragedy drew more public attention than the Los Angeles wildfires in January, the selection of the new pope by the Roman Catholic Church, the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, President Donald Trump’s second-term inauguration, and the tariffs Trump imposed in April.
Kirk topped Google’s list of most searched individuals who passed away in 2025, outranking actors Michelle Trachtenberg, Val Kilmer, Gene Hackman, and Diane Keaton, as well as wrestler Hulk Hogan, Pope Francis, and Food Network host Anne Burrell.
His widow, Erika Kirk, who succeeded him as CEO of Turning Point USA, was ranked fourth among trending people overall.
Erika Kirk was placed ahead of Pope Leo XIV, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Robinson, the alleged killer, ranked second among trending people on Google.
In the months since the assassination, TPUSA has reportedly received more than 100,000 inquiries about starting new chapters.
The surge is a clear sign of the continued momentum behind the organization Kirk founded and the national response to his death.
