A group of students has taken a stand against their high school’s policy that forces young girls to share bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms with males.
Students at a high school in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) walked out in protest of the districtโs gender policy.
The radical policy allows male students who claim to be non-binary, gender-fluid, and transgender to use whichever school facilities they want based on their “chosen gender identity.”
Around 50-100 students at Woodgrove High School participated in the walkout to protest Policy 8040.
LCPS implemented the far-left policy in 2021, ABC WJLA reported.
The students are calling for LCPS to revert to a policy that provides female and male-only spaces, including bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
โIn the locker rooms in the morning itโs an invasion of privacy, as I said because when men and natural-born males are in our locker rooms, and they are showering in the morning, natural-born females can walk in there as they please,โ one male high school student told WJLA.
โAnd that is not OK.
“And it goes against what we believe in.โ
A female student told the local news outlet she stopped using the bathroom at school because of the policy.
She called it a โmassive safety riskโ that LCPS refuses to โdo anything about.โ
โWe express these concerns and they ignore us and write us off as right-wing crazies,โ she said.
โWeโre not crazy. We just donโt want to be in danger on a daily basis in this building.
“I think itโs people finally stepping up and just being sick of it.
“Weโre sick of being here and just being completely ignored.
“I stopped using them [the bathrooms] because I donโt know whatโs going to happen to me in there.
“And people can be like, โOh, well, thatโs paranoidโ.โ
โIโm telling you right now half the women in this building feel the same way,โ she added.
โWe donโt use the bathrooms.
“We hold our pee until we canโt.
“I mean, there are girls in PE [Physical Education class] who still get changed in the bathroom stalls in there because theyโre afraid of who might waltz in.โ
Another male student told WJLA that he would like to be able to change after football practice and not feel uncomfortable that โother gendersโ are watching him.
โI feel that girls feel the same way about the situation,โ he asked.
“How would you feel if you were a female changing with a male?”
Some counter-protesters waived pride flags in support of the bathroom policy, the outlet reported.
It wasn’t clear if the counter-protesters were also students or whether they were adult activists, however.
โIโm here to support all of the children,โ one of them told WJLA.
โNo matter who they are.
“Yours, mine, all of them.โ
One student said the โentire schoolโ should be part of the walkout.
Another explained, โThere are a lot of people who are scared to speak out against it, so they stayed inside because they donโt want to see the backlash.โ
