Hillary Clinton Lashes Out at Trump’s White House Ballroom Plan: ‘He’s Destroying It’

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has blasted President Donald Trump over his newly launched project to build a privately funded ballroom at the White House.

Trump says the renovation will serve “generations of future presidents” without costing taxpayers a dime.

Clinton lashed out at Trump in a post on X on Tuesday, sharing a screenshot of The Washington Post headline, “White House begins demolishing East Wing Facade to build Trump’s ballroom.”

“It’s not his house,” Clinton wrote on X.

“It’s your house. And he’s destroying it.”

The remark came shortly after the White House confirmed construction had officially begun on the new 90,000-square-foot ballroom, part of Trump’s broader modernization effort at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump: “A Much-Needed Project Underway — at Zero Cost to Taxpayers”

In a Monday statement on Truth Social, Trump said the new ballroom, which will accommodate up to 650 seated guests, marks the fulfillment of a long-held presidential goal.

“I am pleased to announce that ground has been broken on the White House grounds to build the new, big, beautiful White House Ballroom,” Trump wrote.

“Completely separate from the White House itself, the East Wing is being fully modernized as part of this process, and will be more beautiful than ever when it is complete!”

“For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits, etc.

“I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway — with zero cost to the American Taxpayer!” Trump continued.

“The White House Ballroom is being privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly.

“This Ballroom will be happily used for Generations to come!”

White House: “No Taxpayer Expense”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed in July that the $200 million project is fully funded through private donations.

She said the new space will address long-standing logistical challenges for official events.

“The White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders in other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building’s entrance,” Leavitt said.

“The new ballroom will be a much needed and exquisite addition.”

White House spokesman Davis Ingle defended the project after Clinton and several Democratic lawmakers criticized it.

“President Trump is working 24/7 to Make America Great Again, including his historic beautification of the White House, at no taxpayer expense,” Ingle said in a statement.

“These long-needed upgrades will benefit generations of future presidents and American visitors to the People’s House.”

Democrats Attack Project

Despite the project’s private funding, several Democrats took to social media to condemn it.

New Jersey Sen. Andy Kim called the ballroom “disgusting,” posting a family photo near the White House and writing:

“We didn’t need a billionaire-funded ballroom to celebrate America.

“Disgusting what Trump is doing.”

Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) criticized the construction amid economic concerns, posting:

“Oh, you’re trying to say the cost of living is skyrocketing?

“Donald Trump can’t hear you over the sound of bulldozers demolishing a wing of the White House to build a new grand ballroom.”

Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, a Democrat, also weighed in, claiming, “Republican math.

“Can afford: Trump ballroom, $40 Billion Argentina bailout, massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

“Can’t afford: health care for Americans, SNAP for struggling Americans, tax relief for middle-class families.”

Patriotic White House Restoration

The ballroom construction follows Trump’s series of privately funded restoration efforts, including the installation of two 88-foot-tall American flags on the White House grounds earlier this summer and a revamp of the Rose Garden, all completed without taxpayer money.

Supporters say the ballroom will not only modernize the White House but also expand its ability to host state events and official ceremonies, something presidents from both parties have long discussed but never achieved.

As Trump noted, the ballroom is “a gift to the American people — at zero cost — that honors our history and our future.”
