Scientists are raising major concerns as Hong Kong, one of the world’s most vaccinated cities, is still battling surging all-cause excess mortality rates.
A major new peer-reviewed study has confirmed that excess deaths continued surging in Hong Kong through 2024, long after the pandemic was over.
The researchers found that deaths caused by cardiovascular and cerebrovascular issues, in particular, are alarmingly high among young people.
The study was led by Dr. Kehang Li of the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health and Primary Care.
The results of the study were published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific.
Drawing on over a decade of mortality data, the retrospective analysis from 2013 to mid-2024 shows that excess mortality remained significantly elevated through 2023 and 2024.
Most critically, all-cause excess mortality in the post-pandemic period (2023–2024) was six times higher than in the pre-Omicron period, led by steep mortality among those over 65, especially from pneumonia.
Younger populations also showed concerning increases in mortality due to cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular events, and injuries.
By late 2022, more than 80% of the population of Hong Kong had been “fully vaccinated.”
Today, over 90% of the population has been “vaccinated” for Covid.
Amazingly, however, the researchers suggest that the all-cause excess deaths are due to the “enduring impact of COVID-19,” despite finding no evidence of deaths related to the virus.
Further, the researchers appear surprised that excess deaths would be so high “even in a highly vaccinated population.”
Yet the deaths caused by cardiovascular injuries have been directly linked to Covid mRNA “vaccines” by multiple studies.
The study found that excess deaths have persisted and even increased since the pandemic.
Age-adjusted excess mortality rose to 32.79 per 100,000 in Hong Kong’s post-pandemic period.
This figure is six times higher than pre-Omicron baselines.
Those aged over 80 were the hardest hit by excess deaths, suffering over 530 excess deaths per 100,000.
The 65–79 group showed major divergence between crude and adjusted rates, suggesting hidden mortality trends.
Interestingly, the study notes that pneumonia has accounted for more deaths than COVID-19.
Pneumonia (ICD-9 486) drove the most respiratory-related excess deaths.
The researchers also revealed that they had uncovered an unexpected surge of deaths among young people.
Adults under 65 saw excess deaths climb in heart disease and injury categories.
However, the researchers brush over “vaccines” as a potential cause for surging cardiac arrests and instead point to possible post-viral complications or system-wide care disruptions.
The researchers again appear baffled that excess mortality is lingering and increasing after the pandemic, despite high “vaccination” rates.
Mortality never returned to baseline.
Yet, the researchers argue that this should prompt urgent questions about vaccine durability, immune imprinting, and the long-tail burden of SARS-CoV-2.
Total deaths from 2023 to mid-2024 remained elevated above expected levels.
For the elderly, mortality from pneumonia continued unabated even as COVID-19 was officially “managed.”
Meanwhile, excess deaths among the young appeared in categories not traditionally associated with respiratory viruses.
The study speculates on causes such as post-Covid cardiovascular damage, delayed care, and socioeconomic disruption.
However, it does not explore “vaccine” safety or the potential impact of repeated mRNA “boosters” on long-term mortality.
Hong Kong’s persistent excess death rate, particularly in a setting with universal health access and early “vaccine” adoption, demands global attention.
Excess mortality is increasingly the gold standard for evaluating pandemic response.
The numbers here undermine simplistic narratives of resolution.
