House Democrat Admits She’s a ‘Proud Guatemalan Before I’m an American’

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL), an open-borders Democrat who sits on the House Border Security and Enforcement Subcommittee, has admitted that her background as a Guatemalan citizen is more important to her than being American.

Several House Democrats, including members of the far-left “Squad,” made controversial remarks at a leftist conference in Mexico City this weekend.

They are accusing the United States of prioritizing imperialism and militarization over the well-being of its citizens.

Among the most striking comments came from Ramirez, who declared that she is prouder to be Guatemalan than American.

The remarks came at the second annual Panamerican Congress, an event bringing together leftist officials from across North and South America, including Democrat Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Summer Lee (D-PA), Jesús Gilberto García (D-IL), and Ramirez, all members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Ramirez’s comments were a direct criticism of U.S. immigration policy and the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

Speaking in Spanish, Ramirez declared, “I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.”

The statement resonated with the so-called “progressive” crowd at the conference.

She continued to accuse the United States of pushing “imperialism, militarization, conquest, [and] control” in its quest for global domination.

Notably, Ramirez is married to a man who is in the country illegally.

On her website, she boasts that she is the only congressional lawmaker “in a mixed-status marriage” and advocates for the “rights of DREAMers,” including her husband, Boris, while pushing for “comprehensive immigration reform.”

The White House quickly condemned the comments, with spokesperson Liz Huston calling them “despicable.”

Huston said in a statement that “These Democrats’ comments underscore their commitment to putting Americans last.”

She contrasted the actions of President Donald Trump, who she said has been working “tirelessly to secure peace deals, deport illegal alien criminals, and advance America’s interests at home and abroad.”

In addition to discussions about immigration, speakers at the summit also weighed in on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia’s deputy minister of multilateral affairs, took the stage to praise Tlaib, calling her a “symbol of resistance” to a standing ovation from the crowd.

His comments highlighted the broader theme of anti-U.S. sentiment at the conference.

The summit was organized by Progressive International, a radical left-wing group that calls capitalism a “virus” that must be eradicated.

The event was held in partnership with Morena, the ruling left-wing party of Mexico.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Mexican Senate and a member of Morena, condemned the “persecution” of illegal aliens in the U.S. under the Trump administration.

He likened the treatment of illegal border crossers to an “unjust, infamous” persecution and claimed that U.S. officials were more focused on migrants than on drug dealers, referencing the infamous “Alligator Alcatraz” prison.

However, Noroña conveniently failed to note that Trump’s deportation efforts have prioritized criminal illegal aliens, including drug traffickers, rapists, child abusers, and murderers.

David Adler, the general coordinator for Progressive International, gave an interview before the event stating that the summit’s goal was to confront “authoritarian and fascist threats” and shift global authority away from Washington, D.C., and toward developing nations in the Global South.

Progressive International’s website describes the United States as the “lynchpin of that imperial violence,” citing U.S. military installations around the world and the massive Pentagon budget.

The group argues that U.S. militarism fuels global political tensions, leaving a “trail of violence and sorrow in their wake.”

According to the group, “Ending US militarism means saving lives.”

These events at the Panamerican Congress reveal the growing divide within U.S. politics, with prominent left-wing figures continuing to criticize the country’s global influence, military presence, and immigration policies.

While President Trump is focused on securing America’s interests and securing peace, these left-wing Democrats continue to advance an anti-American narrative both at home and abroad.

As the U.S. heads toward the 2026 elections, the growing rift between Trump supporters and the left-wing agenda becomes ever clearer.

Democrats like Ramirez, Tlaib, and Omar continue to push for more radical policies, while Trump remains committed to America-first priorities, including strengthening borders and protecting American jobs and values.
