Hunter Biden Admits Father Only Pardoned Him Because Trump Won: ‘It Changed Everything’

Hunter Biden has admitted that his father only pardoned him because President Donald Trump reclaimed the presidency in November 2024.

The younger Biden said the pardon “would not have” happened under normal circumstances.

In an interview published Monday on journalist Tommy Christopher’s Substack, the 55-year-old son of former President Joe Biden said Trump’s return to office “changed everything.”

“Donald Trump went and changed everything,” Hunter said.

“And I don’t think that I need to make much of an argument about why it changed everything.”

Hunter pleaded guilty in 2024 to evading $1.4 million in federal taxes and was convicted on felony gun charges.

He claimed that his father had resisted the idea of a pardon while still in office.

However, Hunter says Trump’s election forced his father’s hand.

“My dad would not have pardoned me if President Trump had not won,” he said.

“The reason that he would not have pardoned me is because I was certain that in a normal circumstance of the appeals, I would have won.”

Hunter: Pardon Was a Shield Against “Revenge Tour”

Hunter claimed the decision was meant to protect him and his family from what he described as Trump’s “revenge tour.”

He suggested he would have been personally targeted by the new administration.

“[Trump] would have made me the easiest target — to intimidate, and to not just impact me, but impact my entire family into silence,” Hunter said.

“At least he’s not — it’s not as easy for him to do [with] me being pardoned.”

He also acknowledged the extraordinary nature of his father’s intervention.

I realize how privileged I am,” Hunter admitted.

“I realize how lucky I am; I realize that I got something that almost no one would have gotten.

“But I’m incredibly grateful for it.”

Hunter added that he believed his father viewed the pardon as the “right thing to do.”

“I don’t think that it requires me to make much of a detailed argument for why it was the right thing to do, at least from my dad, from his perspective,” he said.

Report: Hunter Participated in Clemency Discussions

Last month, former White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients reportedly told the House Oversight Committee that Hunter “was involved” in clemency discussions during the final months of Joe Biden’s presidency.

A source familiar with Zients’ testimony told The New York Post that Hunter even attended multiple meetings where the pardon was discussed.

The revelation adds fuel to ongoing scrutiny over Hunter Biden’s influence within his father’s administration and the ethical conflicts surrounding his legal troubles, business dealings, and personal conduct.

Hunter has not responded to questions about his direct role in securing the pardon.

Background

Hunter Biden’s legal saga spanned years of investigations into his tax evasion, foreign business ties, and illegal firearm possession.

His plea agreement fell apart in 2023, leading to multiple indictments and a high-profile trial that concluded with his conviction.

Critics accused Joe Biden of abusing presidential power by issuing a self-serving pardon to his son during his final days in office.

At the time, the White House defended the decision as an “act of compassion.”

Hunter’s new comments, however, suggest the move was motivated by political fear, not justice.

The admission raises new questions about the Biden family’s use of executive power in the face of Trump’s return to the White House.
