Ilhan Omar: Charlie Kirk Was ‘Filled with Bigotry, Hatred,’ Has ‘No Legacy to Honor’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has issued another scathing attack against murdered Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in the wake of his political assassination.

Omar was responding to the backlash over her ongoing smears of Kirk after he was publicly executed by a leftist gunman earlier this month.

However, rather than back down, Omar is tripling down on her rhetoric.

Omar is defending her past comments by arguing that she does not believe that Kirk has a “legacy to honor.”

Alarmingly, Omar said she only felt it was a “tragedy” due to “the way” Kirk was killed, rather than the fact he was murdered.

Shockingly, she continued by declaring that Kirk has a “legacy filled with bigotry, hatred, and white supremacy.”

The remarks came during an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon.

Lemon pressed Omar on whether she would apologize for her controversial statements about Kirk in the aftermath of his assassination.

“Well, I have nothing to apologize for,” Omar said.

“You know, it is a tragedy that Charlie Kirk was killed in that way.

“I feel for his widow and his children.

“They will have to live with that for the rest of their lives.”

But Omar quickly pivoted to denouncing Kirk himself.

“There is no legacy to honor,” she continued.

“It was a legacy filled with bigotry, hatred, and white supremacy.

“And as a black woman and as a Muslim in this country, I refuse to join the chorus that changes the history of what is on the record from this man.”

Omar added that she would not be “bullied into complacency” just to “make them feel comfortable.”

Tripling Down

When asked about her phrasing that Kirk’s death was a “tragedy,” a spokesperson for Omar told Fox News that the congresswoman had “clearly condemned” the killing and expressed condolences multiple times.

The spokesperson went further, accusing conservative outlets of “disingenuous attempts” to twist Omar’s words and endanger her safety.

Omar also suggested conservatives were eager to pin political violence on the left in order to justify crackdowns.

“I think to them it is easy to blame someone else,” Omar told Lemon.

“It is hard for them to face the fact that there is something wrong and that they have to address it.

“They never think about like, ‘Okay, there is a problem in this country where we have young white men who are picking up a gun, mass executing people, and we should talk about that.’

“And that’s not a conversation that they’re interested in having.”

Ethics Complaint and Censure Effort

Omar’s remarks are the latest in a string of controversies following her public response to Kirk’s assassination.

Earlier this year, she was hit with a House Ethics Committee complaint over comments made on a progressive podcast in which she downplayed tributes to Kirk and blasted Republicans’ reaction.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) brought a resolution to censure Omar.

However, the measure was tabled after four Republicans joined all Democrats to block it.
