Radical Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is demanding that the United States surrender all nuclear weapons.
Omar made the demands while marking the 80th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The far-left congresswoman took to the House floor to call for U.S. support for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
The outspoken progressive warned that the threat of nuclear weapons is ever-present.
She continued by declaring that America must lead the global charge toward disarmament.
“Either we abolish these horrific weapons from the face of the Earth, or we use them and abolish humanity instead,” Omar said.
She pointed to recent global flashpoints, including tensions between India and Pakistan, Israel’s conflict with Iran, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, as examples of how close the world remains to a potential nuclear disaster.
However, despite these increasing threats, Omar argues that the United States should surrender its nuclear defenses.
Omar stressed that while political restraint had prevented escalation “this time,” the threat is far from over.
She argued that the global stockpile of nuclear weapons continues to pose a risk to humanity’s survival.
The congresswoman also spotlighted the domestic impact of nuclear weapons development.
She focused on “downwinder” communities in the U.S. that have been poisoned by fallout from nuclear weapons testing.
However, Omar attempted to deceitfully frame weapons testing as attacks against citizens.
“Their primary targets have been Americans,” she said.
Omar pointed to historical examples of successful disarmament efforts, such as those led by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, as well as South Africa’s decision to dismantle its nuclear program.
She said it is proof that progress can be made with the necessary political will.
With over 50% of the world’s countries having signed the TPNW, Omar urged the U.S. to join them in order to “move closer to justice” in the fight for global disarmament.

But Omar’s focus on disarmament wasn’t the only issue on her mind.
In a separate commentary on X, Omar lashed out at the Republican Party over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Omar accused Republicans of blocking efforts to release the Epstein files before Congress breaks for its summer recess.
She claims Republicans are serving as the “pedophile protection party” by obstructing the release of documents relating to the late financier’s notorious sex trafficking operation.
Those same files have been kept hidden by the Democrats since Epstein’s death in August 2019.
“The pedophile protection party is shutting down Congress just to avoid voting on the release of the Epstein files,” Omar tweeted on Tuesday.
She was referring to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s recent comments, where he stated that the Trump administration needed “space” to vet the documents, due to the potential sensitivity of the material.
Johnson argued that further congressional action might not be necessary at this time, aligning with President Donald Trump’s view that releasing the files could potentially compromise the safety and privacy of victims.
“We agree with the president,” Johnson said during a press conference.
“The American people are best served by putting an end to Democrats’ side shows.”
Omar’s comments were echoed by her far-left ally, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Ocasio-Cortez also criticized the handling of the Epstein files and the delay in releasing them.
“Ummm so let me get this straight: Republicans have ground Congress to a halt and are considering adjourning the entire House for six weeks to avoid releasing the info they have on Epstein? What is going on here?” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
Meanwhile, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a vocal critic of Trump and the handling of the Epstein case, also weighed in on the issue, questioning Speaker Johnson’s position.
“Speaker Johnson, why are you running cover for an underage sex trafficking ring and pretending this is a partisan issue? MAGA voted for this,” Massie posted on X.
Despite the pushback from the Left, there are signs that some movement could be on the horizon in the Epstein case.
A panel of federal judges is currently reviewing whether grand jury transcripts related to Epstein’s activities can be released at the request of Attorney General Pam Bondi.
In addition, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has been meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s imprisoned accomplice.
Trump signaled his approval of this move, noting that Maxwell could potentially secure a pardon if she provides valuable evidence related to Epstein’s operations.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee has also voted to subpoena Maxwell for testimony, further intensifying the push for transparency.
“We will not stop fighting until the Epstein files are released,” Oversight Committee Democrats wrote on X.
“Trump and Bondi must stop blocking the American people from the truth.”
The fight for accountability continues.
