Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) announced Monday that he is introducing a resolution to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from her House committee assignments.
The move comes in response to Omar’s controversial remarks about slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Omar currently serves on the House Budget Committee and is the ranking Democrat on the Education and Workforce Committee’s Subcommittee on Workforce Protections.
Carter says her rhetoric makes her unfit to hold those positions.
“Disparaging Charlie Kirk’s legacy, a God-fearing, honorable man, for boldly sharing his conservative beliefs, is disgusting,” Carter said in a statement.
“The radical left has normalized meeting free speech with violence, and it must stop.
“No one who justifies the assassination of someone with different political views than them deserves to sit on a committee.”
Carter added, “Committees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.”
Omar Under Fire After Kirk Assassination
The move comes in the wake of Kirk’s assassination last week at a campus event in Utah.
The brutal killing has shocked conservatives nationwide and sparked intense scrutiny of Democrats’ responses.
Omar, a prominent member of the progressive “Squad,” drew sharp backlash after an interview with left-wing outlet Zeteo, as Slay News reported.
The radical congressswoman dismissed Republican tributes to Kirk as “pretending his words and actions have not been recorded.”
Omar continued by smearing Kirk and mocking his legacy, laughing as she spoke.
She accused Republicans of twisting her comments but continued to criticize Kirk’s past views, including his opposition to making Juneteenth a national holiday.
“There are a lot of people who are out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar said.
“There is nothing more effed up … than to completely pretend that, you know, his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.”

Omar later attempted to clarify on X, insisting that she had “condemned his murder multiple times” and that she had “empathy for his kids and his wife.”
She accused conservatives of deliberately misrepresenting her words to “villainize the left.”
Fallout Continues
Republicans, however, argue Omar’s statements reflect a deeper problem.
Kirk’s allies have pointed to escalating rhetoric on the Left, where opponents regularly compare President Donald Trump and his supporters to Nazis or fascists, as contributing to a climate of hostility that has now turned deadly.
Carter’s resolution adds to the growing calls for accountability.
If successful, it would strip Omar of her influential committee roles, mirroring past moves against lawmakers who crossed partisan or ethical lines.
For conservatives, the message is clear.
Omar’s rhetoric crossed the line at a moment when Americans should be uniting against political violence.
