Officials in deep-blue New York are under fire after it emerged that the state had issued a genuine driver’s license to an illegal alien who failed to even provide his own name.
An illegal alien was caught carrying a New York commercial driver’s license with “NO NAME GIVEN” listed as his name.
The Indian national, identified as Anmol Anmol, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Oklahoma, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Friday.
The arrest came during a three-day joint enforcement sweep along Interstate 40, conducted by ICE and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The operation was targeting illegal aliens operating heavy trucks.
DHS confirmed that Anmol was carrying a valid Class A CDL issued by New York state in April, with a federally recognized REAL ID star, despite being in the country illegally.
National Security and Safety Concerns
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin slammed New York’s licensing policies, saying the state had effectively handed the ability to operate 80,000-pound rigs to illegal aliens.
“New York is not only failing to check if applicants applying to drive 18-wheelers are U.S. citizens but even failing to obtain the full legal names of individuals they are issuing commercial driver’s licenses to,” McLaughlin said.
“Allowing illegal aliens to obtain commercial driver’s licenses to operate 18-wheelers and transport hazardous materials on America’s roads is reckless and incredibly dangerous to public safety.”
McLaughlin credited the success of ICE’s 287(g) partnership with Oklahoma troopers for removing Anmol from the road.
New York Defends Its Process
The New York Department of Motor Vehicles pushed back, insisting that the individual had been issued a license “consistent with federal guidelines” after presenting employment authorization documents.
A DMV official also claimed that “it is not uncommon for individuals from other countries to have only one name.”
The official argued that federal paperwork allows for a “no name given” designation.
Oklahoma Governor Responds
Oklahoma Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt blasted New York’s policy, warning that states like his will not allow sanctuary practices to endanger their highways.
“If New York wants to hand out CDLs to illegal immigrants with ‘No Name Given,’ that’s on them,” Stitt said in a statement.
“The moment they cross into Oklahoma, they answer to our laws.”
Operation Guardian Sweep
ICE reported that during the September 23–25 operation, officers detained 120 illegal immigrants along I-40.
Of those, 91 were operating commercial vehicles with licenses issued by “sanctuary” states.
Those arrested came from across the globe, including India, Uzbekistan, China, Russia, Turkey, and Cuba.
Many had prior criminal records, ranging from drug trafficking and assault to human smuggling and money laundering.
The sweep comes on the heels of national outrage over the case of Harjinder Singh, another Indian national who was issued a California CDL despite failing an English proficiency test.
Singh now faces vehicular homicide charges after a fatal Florida crash that killed three.
Deputy ICE Director Madison Sheahan said the Oklahoma operation proved the need for aggressive state–federal partnerships.
“Illegal aliens have no business operating 18-wheelers on America’s highways,” Sheahan said.
“Our roads are now safer with these illegal aliens no longer behind the wheel.”
She urged other states to join Oklahoma in partnering under the 287(g) program:
“This operation clearly demonstrates how federal and local law enforcement agencies can work together to make America safe again.”
