Horrifying new charges are stacking up against an illegal alien soccer coach accused of brutally assaulting and murdering one of his young players, deepening a case federal officials say never should have been possible had immigration law been enforced.
Mario Edgardo Garcia-Aquino, 44, an illegal immigrant “gotaway” from El Salvador, is now facing additional child sex charges after being accused of raping and killing a teenage boy he coached.
Prosecutors have also charged him with sodomy and oral copulation involving minors under 16.
Alleged Predator Embedded in Youth Soccer
After entering the United States, Garcia-Aquino established himself in the San Fernando Valley as a youth soccer coach, regularly operating at Whitsett Fields Park in North Hollywood, where children’s games are held and where he allegedly met 13-year-old Oscar Hernandez.
Authorities say Garcia-Aquino sexually assaulted the boy and later murdered him.
This week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed nine additional child sex charges.
The charges include eight counts of sodomy of a person under 16 and one count of oral copulation of a minor under 16, according to an amended complaint.
Garcia-Aquino has pleaded not guilty to the new charges through his attorney, according to local media reports.
Prosecutors declined further comment due to the ongoing case.
Multiple Alleged Victims Across Several Years
Court documents indicate that on March 28, Garcia-Aquino murdered Oscar Hernandez during a sexual assault.
The same complaint accuses him of a separate rape of a child in December 2022.
A separate alleged assault dated Feb. 22, 2024, was later added to the case, with prosecutors alleging repeated abuse of another minor between September 2022 and July 2023.
As charges continue to accumulate, Garcia-Aquino could face the death penalty if convicted.
Federal Officials Condemn Crime
Federal officials previously issued a forceful statement about the case.
The Department of Homeland Security said:
“Thirteen-year-old Oscar ‘Omar’ Hernandez was an innocent child who was exploited and killed by this depraved illegal alien who should have never been in this country.
“Under President Donald Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, child predators, pedophiles, and murderers will be hunted down and removed from America’s communities.”
Family members reported the victim was last seen leaving his Sun Valley home to meet the soccer coach before he was later found dead along a roadside.
In another alleged assault involving a 14-year-old boy, officials say Garcia-Aquino befriended a family through a local soccer program, eventually gaining enough trust for the teen to stay overnight at his home.
The murdered boy’s brother told CBS News he believes Garcia-Aquino specifically targeted illegal alien families, raising further alarm about the scope and method of the alleged crimes.
