Illegal Alien Tries to Drown Woman at Beach in Random, Unprovoked Attack

A Florida woman is recovering after authorities say she was the victim of a brutal, unprovoked late-night attack on a Martin County beach.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said the woman had been walking along Tiger Shores Beach around 11 p.m. Thursday when the assault occurred.

Her husband called 911 after receiving alarming information from the victim’s sister.

The victim’s sister had been speaking with her on the phone at the time of the attack.

“Her sister said it sounded like she was fighting with someone,” the husband told dispatchers.

“And then the phone went dead.

“They’ve been calling her for the past five minutes.

“She’s not responding.”

The husband said he was rushing to her last known location near Stuart Beach as deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Brutal Assault Along the Shoreline

Deputies soon found the woman on the shoreline suffering visible injuries.

Budensiek said she was “wet with bruising on the side of her neck, bruising on the side of her face,” as investigators worked to determine what had happened.

Authorities believe the victim was walking alone when she was suddenly attacked from behind.

“She was hit first, grabbed around the throat, drug into the ocean, and then held down as she struggled to break free from this individual,” Budensiek said.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Said Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez, an illegal alien.

Hernandez Gonzalez was arrested Sunday after deputies said he threatened to kill himself.

According to the sheriff, Hernandez Gonzalez offered no clear motive for the attack.

“For some unknown reason, he went into a rage, went and smacked the phone out of her hand, realized he’d gone too far, pulled her into the ocean, and started trying to drown her,” Budensiek said.

Authorities said Hernandez Gonzalez admitted he stopped the assault only after believing the woman had died.

When deputies later informed him that the victim had survived and asked whether he felt remorse, Budensiek said the suspect responded: “No, I don’t feel nothing.”

Charges and Immigration Hold

Hernandez Gonzalez has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Martin County Jail.

Budensiek said the suspect is in the United States illegally and is also being detained by immigration authorities.

Officials have not publicly detailed the victim’s medical condition.

However, she is expected to recover as the criminal case proceeds.
