Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon has issued a response to the murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C.
According to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot and killed on Wednesday evening near the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C.
Washington D.C. police began investigating after reports indicated two victims had been shot across the street from the FBI’s Washington Field Office, near the museum, according to CNN.
Around 10 p.m., Noem said the two killed were staff members for the Israeli Embassy.
In a post on X, Noem said that the department is working to gather more information.
“Two Israeli Embassy staff were senselessly killed tonight near the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.,” Noem wrote.
“We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share.
“Please pray for the families of the victims.
“We will bring this depraved perpetrator to justice.”
During an interview on Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” Danon warned that the fatal shooting is a “consequence” of leftists “spreading lies” about Israel committing “genocide” in Gaza.
Reacting to the fatal shooting, Danon said:
“When people are spreading lies, blaming us [for] genocide, calling for intifada, for like armed revolt against Israel, that is the consequence that we saw tonight.”
“We have seen the incitement on campuses,” he added.
“We have seen the incitement in many places.”
“We are waiting to receive more information from the authorities. But we have seen what happened in the last few weeks,” Danon continued.
“We have seen the incitement on campuses.
“We have seen the incitement in many places.
“And, unfortunately, today we faced a horrible terror attack against innocent people.
“I’m sure that the authorities will make sure they will find out exactly who is behind it. But I think the more important issue is also to address the incitement.
“When people are spreading lies, blaming us [for] genocide, calling for intifada, for like armed revolt against Israel, that is the consequence that we saw tonight.”
“I think we’ll have to go and look deeper about the incitement that we have seen in the last few weeks,” Danon added.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said during a press conference that a 30-year-old suspect had been pacing outside of the museum prior to the incident.
The suspect then approached a group of four people before opening fire.
After shooting the two victims, the suspect walked into the museum and was detained by event security.
While being taken into custody by officials, the suspect chanted “free, free Palestine,” Smith said.
