Democrats are facing mounting allegations of hypocrisy as they complain about Republican redistricting efforts after years of gerrymandering in blue states and cities.
Recent redistricting efforts by Republicans in Texas have provoked a wave of backlash from the Democrats.
However, much of the criticism has come from Democrats who have long supported redistricting when it benefits their own party.
During an interview with CBS News on Thursday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) responded to a member of the Texas State House arguing that Illinois, New York, and California are gerrymandered in favor of Democrats.
However, she responded by pointing to the Jeffrey Epstein files, claiming:
“They don’t know how to deal with us actually deciding that we will get on their level.”
CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and host Major Garrett said:
“On this program last night, Brian Harrison, who is a Republican member of the Texas House, said that the Democrats who have left Texas are hypocrites — his word, not mine — because they fled to Illinois, a deeply gerrymandered state or they fled to California or New York, deeply Democratic gerrymandered states.
“So, he listed three and said those are representative of flaws in the system that Texas Republicans are just trying to balance in Texas. I’d like your response.”
Crockett responded, “Yeah, listen, I just can’t listen to any Republican right now.
“If you were not a Republican that had a problem with the fact that the U.S. House decided that they would go on recess for an entire month because they did not want to deal with the Epstein files, then you absolutely have no place to speak now. …
“So, here’s the deal: Timeout for Democrats just sitting there and being the bigger person and absolutely doing the moral thing, the right thing when Republicans are playing with a completely different playbook.
“They don’t know how to deal with us actually deciding that we will get on their level.”

During another interview, Crockett was asked yet again about gerrymanering.
This time, however, Crockett likened her Republican colleagues to the Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan.
On MSNBC’s “Velshi” on Saturday, Crockett was asked about the current redistricting efforts led by Republicans in Texas.
Here is a transcript of the exchange:
CROCKETT: “It’s not just even the fact that it’s gerrymandering. I want to be clear, this is racial gerrymandering, specifically in the state of Texas.”
VELSHI: “Do you hear the stuff they’re saying about Gene Wu, by the way, talking about Asians, like how he’s connected to the Chinese Communist Party, like the racism? They’re not doing a great job at keeping it, you know, keeping the lid on that pot.”
CROCKETT: “No, I mean, honestly, when Trump came in the first time, they started to lift the hoods.
“Once Trump got in a second time, they decided the hoods were off.
“And listen, I’m perfectly fine with it because I want to know where you stand.
“I want to know that you’re a despicable human being who lacks all morality, but wants to go around and teach and preach Christianity.
“I want to know who you are, because then I know how to deal with you.
“It is unfortunate that that is where we are, and it is one reason that it is so difficult for minorities to even try to listen to Republicans, because they consistently coddle people like neo-Nazis.”

Since Trump took office earlier this year, Crockett has been ramping up her divisive rhetoric.
She has become notorious for her crass and vulgar rants about Republicans.
Just last month, she said Trump was aspiring to be like Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
“I don’t even know what to call him,” she said at the time.
“I’ve called him so many things, but this wannabe Hitler for sure.”
However, as Slay News previously reported, whistleblowing aides have alleged that Crockett is more interested in becoming an “influencer” than she is in serving her constituents.
