Jasmine Crockett: ‘I Would Love to Challenge Ted Cruz’ in Senate Race

Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has sparked fresh political chatter after revealing she would “love” to take on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a future Senate race, calling him her “ideal” opponent.

“Ted Cruz would be ideal,” Crockett said during a virtual town hall, hinting at what could become one of the most high-profile Senate matchups in the country.

“He would be ideal to run against.

“I would love to challenge Ted Cruz,” she asserted.

Crockett noted that the remark was the “first time” she had “ever said that publicly.”

While Crockett stopped short of announcing an official campaign, her remarks underscore the Democratic Party’s long-running ambition to flip at least one of Texas’s two Senate seats.

It’s a goal that has eluded the Left for more than three decades.

A History of Controversy

Crockett, who represents Texas’s 30th Congressional District, is known for her brash, confrontational style and record of making inflammatory remarks.

As previously reported, she has drawn national attention for comparing President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

The congresswoman calls Trump “Temu Hitler,” a reference to the Chinese e-commerce site known for selling cheap knockoffs.

Crockett doubled down on the insult even as critics warned that such rhetoric fuels division and trivializes historical atrocities.

She has also used her platform to defend progressive priorities, including the Defund the Police movement and abortion without restriction, while accusing Republicans of “fascism” and “authoritarianism.”

These positions have earned her praise from the party’s activist base but have also alienated many moderate and independent voters in her home state, where Democrats have struggled to gain traction outside urban areas.

Eyeing Cruz’s Seat

Crockett’s comments come as Democrats weigh their options for 2028, when Cruz is next up for re-election.

Cruz narrowly defeated Beto O’Rourke in 2018, one of the closest Senate races in modern Texas history.

However, the senator has since solidified his standing among conservatives as a leading voice on border security, free speech, and judicial appointments.

Despite the state’s Republican lean, Democrats continue to point to growing turnout in Houston, Dallas, and Austin as evidence that the political map could tighten again in future cycles.

Crockett suggested that a challenger who can energize younger and more diverse voters might have a shot at unseating Cruz.

“Ted Cruz would be ideal to run against,” she said again, framing the senator as a symbol of what she sees as the GOP’s outdated leadership.

Cruz Remains Unshaken

Cruz, for his part, has shown no indication that he views Crockett or any Democrat challenger as a serious threat.

The two-term senator remains one of the most recognizable and well-funded figures in the Republican Party, with strong grassroots support and national fundraising networks built during his 2016 presidential campaign and his close alliance with President Donald Trump.

If Crockett does decide to run, the race would pit one of the GOP’s most battle-tested conservatives against one of the Democratic Party’s most outspoken progressives, a political showdown emblematic of the growing divide between Texas’s rural and urban voters.
