Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has provoked a backlash online over her response to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
On Wednesday, Psaki took to social media to attack Christians who were praying for victims of the tragedy.
A gunman opened fire through the window of the Catholic church during a Mass service.
The attack killed two children, ages eight and ten, and injured 17 others.
Following the tragedy, Psaki wrote on X:
“Prayer is not freaking enough.
“Prayers does not end school shootings.
“[P]rayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school.
“Prayer does not bring these kids back.
“Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”
Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.

Her comments echoed other Democrats who dismissed calls for prayer after the attack.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told reporters:
“Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now.
“These kids were literally praying.
“It was the first week of school, they were in a church.”
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) agreed, saying:
“Thoughts and prayers just aren’t enough.”
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed during a press conference that Westman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His body was found at the back of the church.
Westman carried a rifle, shotgun, and pistol.
He is believed to have used all three weapons during the attack.
Authorities have not identified a motive.
At least seven victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition, including two children, O’Hara said.
Of the 17 people injured, 14 were children.
