John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, announced Tuesday that he is running for Congress to replace longtime Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) in the House of Representatives.
Nadler is set to retire after 17 terms in office.
Schlossberg, 32, said in an email to supporters that he will officially launch his campaign on Wednesday.
The Democrat outlined his message in a campaign video released Tuesday night on social media.
“This district should have a representative who can harness the creativity, energy and drive of this district and translate that into political power in Washington,” Schlossberg said in the video.
Schlossberg Attacks Trump in Launch Video
In his campaign announcement, Schlossberg took direct aim at President Donald Trump, accusing him of corruption and claiming the nation faces a “constitutional crisis.”
“It’s a corruption crisis,” he said.
“The President has made almost a billion dollars this year.
“He’s picking winners and losers from inside the Oval Office.
“It’s cronyism, not capitalism,” he continued.
“It’s a constitutional crisis with one dangerous man in control of all three branches of government.
“He’s stripping citizens of their civil rights and silencing his critics.”
Takes Aim at Trump, and His Own Cousin
Schlossberg is the only grandson of former President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
He has been a vocal critic of President Trump on social media, where he frequently comments on national politics and current events.
Schlossberg has also publicly mocked his cousin, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for his Make America Healthy Again initiative.
Last month, Schlossberg posted a Halloween photo on Instagram featuring a costume labeled “MAHA Man,” describing it as including “such things as measles.”
Nadler Steps Aside After Nearly Three Decades
Nadler, who represents New York’s 12th Congressional District, announced in September that he will not seek re-election in 2026.
Speaking to The New York Times, Nadler suggested it was time for a younger Democrat to take his place.
“A younger Democratic lawmaker in my seat can maybe do better, can maybe help us more,” Nadler said.
The 12th District covers Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Midtown, historically one of the most reliably Democratic regions in the country.
Schlossberg holds a Harvard Law degree and has previously worked on climate and voting rights issues.
He is expected to position himself as a continuation of the Kennedy family’s political legacy in his first bid for elected office.
