Thursday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was mysteriously pulled at the last minute without explanation, leaving viewers confused after the network aired an older episode in its place.
The canceled show had been set to feature actor David Duchovny, “Stranger Things” star Joe Keery, and musical guest Madison Beer.
Beer first revealed the decision shortly before the scheduled taping.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, @jimmykimmellive needed to reschedule my performance that was originally scheduled to air tonight to a later date,” Beer posted on X.
ABC has not commented publicly on the abrupt schedule change.
LateNighter reported that the cancellation stemmed from “a personal matter,” while Deadline reported the matter was related to Kimmel.
In place of the new episode, ABC aired the October 28 edition of the show.
A fan posted an email from the show’s audience team, which offered no further information:
“Tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live has been postponed.
“Apologies for any inconvenience.
“Will [sic] will contact you to reschedule for a future taping. Thanks.”
The show’s sudden cancellation follows a previous multi-day suspension in September.
It came after the liberal host made comments about the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
During the September 15 broadcast, Kimmel falsely claimed that “the MAGA gang” was “desperately trying to characterize” the suspect “as anything other than one of them.”
Two days later, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr reprimanded Kimmel.
Disney subsequently suspended the show.
Kimmel returned to the air on September 23.
In an interview released Thursday on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast, Kimmel said his son asked whether “Trump got him suspended.”
“I think I said yes,” Kimmel said.
“We did. We actually both said yes at the exact same time,” added his wife, Molly McNearney.
McNearney serves as co-head writer and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Kimmel posted a clip of the interview to Instagram on Friday morning, but has not addressed Thursday’s cancellation.

The long-running host has rarely missed episodes during his 22-year tenure.
The network previously announced in advance that the show would air reruns from October 20–23; Kimmel returned on October 27.
He has also taken brief absences for family events, including the birth of his granddaughter in May and his son’s surgery in 2017.
Kimmel’s first missed show occurred in 2007 when he underwent an emergency appendectomy.
