Kamala Harris Campaign Asked Gov Josh Shapiro If He’s a ‘Double Agent for Israel’

Pennsylvania’s Democrat Gov. Josh Shapiro revealed that former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 election campaign team asked whether he had ever been an “agent of the Israeli government.”

Shapiro was reportedly grilled on the matter while Harris was vetting him as a potential running mate.

The governor, who is Jewish, said he was outraged by the question, which he described as offensive and ideologically driven.

The claim appears in a preview of Shapiro’s upcoming book, “Where We Keep the Light.”

Shapiro wrote that the vetting process included what he characterized as “unnecessarily contentious” questions from Harris’ team, particularly from former Joe Biden aide Dana Remus.

One question, Shapiro said, stood out.

“Have you ever been an agent of the Israeli government?” he recalled being asked.

“Had I been a double agent for Israel?

“Was she kidding?” Shapiro wrote.

“I told her how offensive the question was.”

Shapiro said he understood that Remus was performing her role in the vetting process, but added that the nature of the question “said a lot about some of the people around the VP.”

Ideological Litmus Tests, Not Policy

According to Shapiro, the inquiry was part of a broader line of questioning that focused less on qualifications or policy differences and more on ideology and political posture, particularly regarding Israel.

He said Harris’ team pressed him on whether he would be willing to apologize for past comments criticizing protesters at the University of Pennsylvania who erected encampments opposing Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Some of those protests, he noted, involved the intimidation of Jewish students.

“It nagged at me that their questions weren’t really about substance,” Shapiro wrote.

“Rather, they were questioning my ideology, my approach, my worldview.”

Financial “Warning” Sealed His Decision

Shapiro said he ultimately decided against joining the ticket after Remus suggested that serving as vice president could be a financial burden for him and his wife, a comment he interpreted as an attempt to dissuade him.

“Are you trying to convince me not to do this?” Shapiro wrote.

Neither Harris’ team nor Remus has responded to Shapiro’s claims.

The episode has since spilled into a public back-and-forth.

In her own book, “107 Days,” Harris criticized Shapiro, claiming he wanted to be involved in every decision.

Harris said that she had to remind Shapiro that the role was “a vice president is not a co-president.”

Shapiro rejected that characterization in subsequent interviews.

“Complete and utter bulls**t,” he said, before briefly walking back the phrasing.

“She’s trying to sell books. Period.”

The account adds to ongoing scrutiny of how Harris’s team handled internal disagreements and ideological tensions, particularly on Israel, during the 2024 campaign cycle.
