Kamala Harris Declares Herself a ‘Historic Figure’: ‘Thousands of People Are Coming to Hear My Voice’

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is openly embracing her legacy, declaring in a new interview that she is a “historic figure” and touting the fact that Congress will erect a “marble bust” of her.

Speaking with The New York Times about her upcoming book “107 Days,” Harris said she no longer feels “burdened” by the pressure to secure her place in history.

“I understand the focus on ’28 and all that,” she told the Times.

“But there will be a marble bust of me in Congress.

I am a historic figure like any Vice President of the United States ever was.”

Harris also boasted about her book tour:

Thousands of people are coming to hear my voice.

“Thousands and thousands,” she added.

“Every place we’ve gone has been sold out.”

Her comments reference a Senate tradition, dating back to the late 1800s, of commissioning official busts of former vice presidents.

But the timing of Harris’s remarks and the self-congratulatory tone immediately drew attention, especially as she uses her book rollout to settle a number of intra-party scores.

Going After Her Own Party

In “107 Days,” Harris takes direct aim at fellow Democrats, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, whom she passed over as a running mate in favor of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Harris writes that Shapiro asked her team numerous questions, including “how he might arrange to get Pennsylvania artists’ work on loan from the Smithsonian.”

She also accuses him of trying to insert himself into every decision, adding that she reminded him, “a vice president is not a co-president.”

Shapiro forcefully denied her account.

“She wrote that in her book?” Shapiro said to The Atlantic.

“That’s complete and utter bull—-.

“I can tell you that her accounts are just blatant lies.”

“I did ask a bunch of questions,” he added.

“Wouldn’t you ask questions if someone was talking to you about forming a partnership and working together?”

He went further: “I mean, she’s trying to sell books and cover her a–,” before immediately correcting himself:

“I shouldn’t say ‘cover her a–.’

“I think that’s not appropriate.”

“She’s trying to sell books. Period.”

Harris Blames Biden for Her Struggles

Harris also uses the book to blame the Biden White House for what she portrays as persistent undermining during their administration.

“Getting anything positive said about my work or any defense against untrue attacks was almost impossible,” her book reads.

She argues Biden’s team allowed her to “shoulder the blame” for the border crisis.

It’s a criticism Harris has been making with increasing frequency as she attempts to reshape her public image.
